You might try to find a copy of "Steichen: A Life in Photography". Throughout his incredibly varied and nearly seventy year career, he returned to everyday objects such as carpet tacks, flower pots, and thread as sources of inspiration for some wonderful illustrations.

I do a lot of that sort of thing. In fact I created an album which I titled "Around The House." Unfortunately I can't show you any because they weren't made with a large format camera. And frankly I'm not sure how inspirational they'd be anyhow, they're just things that interested me, usually involving the play of light and shadow.
two years ago I sprained my ankle pretty bad. so i took some plates "around the house'

Everyday things? Like a tire swing in the backyard?

Calder in the Tree. (You have to spray them out of the trees or else they'll multiply!)
Just found out today, via x-rays, Bryce broke 3 bones in his foot (tripped on a rock on Friday). At least he waited until after the summer break -- and not while he was on the top of Half Dome a couple weeks ago!
Ouch, sorry to hear about the broken foot. Cool pin holes!
Look for the book, "Home Photography" by Paul Sanderson, a Britisher.
Not just good photos, but thought provoking text.

I really like this one, Austin. Nice perspective and light.

I like the feel of the chair Scott =}
Not exactly light-hearted work. During the german occupation of Prague in WWII, he didn't feel free to set up his camera in public. To me, his pictures from that time have a certain imprisoned feeling. Definately great work.
Many german artists went into mental exile during the nazi regime. August Sander mostly photographed landscapes. Others concentrated on private, intimate motives.

Think of where you will be in many years. Look backwards from the future, take photographs that will capture what you are going to miss.
Going to move soon, here is Mister Cactus and his 5 Buds.B&J with a 14" Raptar, TXP 5X7 film
Can not get photo centered on page?

I'm afraid this one doesn't translate too well to the computer screen, but what I was trying to do here was make a portrait of two people (and a marriage) using their bookcases as stand-ins. You'll have to use your imagination on the book titles.

Love the idea of this thread because there is so much inspiring stuff around the house. Great images already! The idea of the book cases is just awesome.
Here's some fooling around in my kitchen with my Technika and an old 5.6/135 symmar convertible...

It's fun to take pictures of stuff I see a thousand times a day - just to see what a picture of it looks like...

I really like this shot. Has a very warm, cozy quality to it.
cjb... That image has the look and feel like one of those wonderful old warm-fuzzy "Kodak Moments" ads from the 1960's. I love it. :)
I was specialised in warm and fuzzy for a short time in the seventies. Ektachrome 'pushed' gets that hand-coloured look. The hard part is getting the heads all working together (no stripping-in from another tranny in those days). Lit with fresnels for atmosphere. The set was built in one day, shot and broken up the following day.
Well, one can tell that this was a lot of work with a lot of devotion to detail (like your still-lifes). Directing all those people plus a dog must have been a nightmare and you solved that masterly. It's really stunning.
cjb... I didn't want to write that I thought it was posed even though I was certain it had to be. It indeed has a hand-crafted look to it. All players were very very good... especially the director!! Any more artsy and it would have necessarily been a painting.
Attachment 73440...nice lightining !!!
how many watts for this one ? :-)
There had to be a fire in the grate, so about 10000 Watts continuous light - a 5000 fresnel through the window, a feathered 2000 through the door, a 2000 through a spun glass screen for soft indoors, a bounced 650 for fill. The people are holding still for half a second. This shot is a reject because the fire was waning. But I'm sorry to hog a nice thread with what was meant to be a joke.
Another 'warm and fuzzy' 4x5 from the seventies. This time, there's an strobe doing the sunshine and daylight doing the rest. It shows how little colour illustration has to do with photography.
