Lee Neutral Density Filter color cast
I’m going this Friday to the sea for some long exposure images.
I have several Lee Neutral Density Filters 6 - 10 and 15 stop filters.
The 6 stop has no color cast problem, but in digital the 10 stop has a bleu cast. 15 stop not yet tried with digital or color.
Is it possible to correct this with film as with an digital image?
Probably going to use some Portra 160 or Ektar 100 on a 4x5.
Thx
Patrick

If you can quantify the amount of bleu then add the same yellow and appropriate exposure factor. Possibly resolvable in printing but I would rather start as close as I can.

Get these: https://diglloyd.com/blog/2019/20190...polarizer.html. I use one on my Fuji GFX50s and it's a sharp aan shooting without a filter and there's no colour cast either.

ND filters with color casts are a pain. You can use them for black-and-white though...

I know, normally I use the 10 stop only with black and white, but I have some idea’s with the beach, sea and air ...
Re: Lee Neutral Density Filter color cast
Neutral density and polarizers are the most difficult filters for a manufacturer to make fully neutral. Heliopan has been the best to date.
In the 1980's Sinar had a huge filter kit with all the different CC filters etc, in a metal case that sold then for over $3000. They delivered for 2-3 years without the ND filters, but finally delivered the ND filters later to all who purchased the kits.
The filters were acrylic like a Lee and may have been made by Lee in the 1980's for Sinar.
Just some info.

Re: Lee Neutral Density Filter color cast
I have developed last week my Kodak Portra 160 sheets, and the results where as expected. To blue, green cast ... Unable to remove with Photoshop or Lightroom, but scanned as black and white perfect.
I’ll thinkI stay with black & white with my ND filters.

Do graduated ND's have the same issue?

Not in my experience... but that’s probably because you don’t go above 3 stops. Mostly 2 stops tops (3 can start looking artificial IMHO except for very specific cases).
I believe the color shift issues with NDs are related to 6 stops or more.

Indeed, I had never a problem with the graduated filters. And you really need them with slide film.
