Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
West Coast Imaging just announced a 20% off Chromira print sale; the sale applies to preflighted files and extends through NOV 11th. Pretty timely, for some of us.
The sale doesn't show on their website (yet). For those interested, send me a PM or email me and I'll forward the email. A promotional code, and a "coupon" is required.
Cheers

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Hi Capocheny,
Thanks for that great cup of coffee yesterday...it's ALMOST as good as Timmies...
If we go on a shoot this weekend, perhaps you can pass your prints on to me then?
I'm kinda hoping Sunday will be good weatherwise...haven't heard back from John yet. If Steve can't go, I'll drive my van...
-
Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Andrew,
I can't seem to send any e-mail for about 8 days now, and I don't know why. Same computer for the past 5 years - what's gone wrong? I am following the print exchange posts, and do plan to participate. I hesitate to post full personal information here. Hopefully I can e-mail soon. Thanks. Jeff (no alias) - Alberta, Canada.

H.D.C.,
I'm using Telus for internet, and it's working now. I didn't change anything with my computer - I'm sure the problem was with Telus.

Hi Jeff,
Just make sure that you call Telus and complain about the "down time" and they'll gladly refund a portion of the charges on your billing.
I had similar problems when I first got Telus and they were great about dealing with the issues.

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Getting down to the wire on this. I've probably only shot 30 negatives with my new LF camera. Of that perhaps 10 are exposed properly (hey look, I'm new alright!) and of that perhaps only two are really interesting. Hoping tomorrow is gonna be a good day....I want more choices!!! =)

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Oh, ok, not really getting down to the wire. Thought the deadline was January 1, 2007 and I see now it's January 31. So I get another month. Hope I get new thermal underwear for Chirstmas...it was freezing on the Brooklyn Bridge the other day. Why couldn't I be a studio portrait photographer!?!?!

I know precisely what you mean. Last winter, I did a series of ice shots with all those flows you see along the side of the road. I'd be out there with my Toyo 5x5, freezing my cajones off. People would be driving by and the passengers would be pointing their fingers at me and shaking their heads. But they were right. I AM crazy. Since I've gotten my technique a little more refined, I'm going to be back out there again this year. I think I can get the subtle details in the highlights now.
-
Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Can I get in on this? If so, count me in.

Michael,
Just wear a sign saying, "I'm on Meds!" and they'll feel sorry for you rather than think you're bonkers.
The other benefit is... they'll leave you alone! :)
Good luck... lol, and don't forget to keep the cajones warm!

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Made the last batch of prints this morning. They're hanging up to dry right now . . .
-
Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Sorry Bruce. You'll have to wait until the next print exchange.

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Okay guys- tomorrow I'm going to our post office to get a price for shipping my prints. Here's a question; if we want to exchange info about our images (what, where, which film/dev, lens etc) is the consensus to include a covering letter, OR, just ship prints and put all the info on this forum??
Obviously including a letter each may put up cost, but it is easier to read while perusing the prints by the fireside, malt whisky in hand. . .
-
Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
I was wondering this myself. I woudl really like to know the details for others for the prints being made. My suggestion is to possibly have everybody send their text description over to one person (I'll volunteer if Andrew is time constrained ) and have all people shoot off a text description of their image/process used/anything else. Then we format it in MS Word and include a copy of it with the package or just make the file available to the participants.
Anyone like this idea or have another to share?

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Good question Colin,
Mine are printed and ready to ship, I have written out all of the tech info on the image but I am not sure how to include it. I don't want to create any more work for Andrew than he will already have. Any ideas?
Also, how about some kind of a voting process among each group on favorite print?

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
I printed the exposure information text on nineteen sheets of paper to accompany the prints.
-
Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Since I'm in the UK I want to ship soon- maybe even tomorrow. So, to cover my bases I've printed a covering letter with the technical details on it. I'll include 19 copies. If we then choose to put all the info here on the forum Andrew can simply toss my covering letter in the trash. Hell, we'll probably all end up swopping tech questions here anyway even if we do include written information. Maybe I shoulda written a Christmas card instead . . .
-
Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Just print 19 descriptions of your work to go along with the 19 prints. On the last exchange, I put them both into sleeves so Andrew did not have to do any extra mixing and matching...
-
Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
One option for sharing technical information, would be to create a blog somewhere. It could either be setup with a shared username and password, requiring everyone to enter their own information, or one of us could collect the information from everyone else and post the info. Everyone could print the blog page and have it handy when viewing the prints.
I would suggest including a small web-compatible version of the image, followed by any other information.
I am willing to be the point man if the second option were selected. I'd ask everyone to email me their tech info and either (1) a small jpg (say 500 pixels in the long dimension?) or (2) a URL to the image if it's online elsewhere.
Sample blog for this is here.

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
I think having something in hand with each print would be great. And along with technical info as someone mentioned earlier any background about the making the image as sometimes there are intersting stories.

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Hey Andrew- my box of prints went out by Air Mail few days back. Don't know when you're gonna see 'em, but they should be in plenty of time for deadline.
Now, return postage- I didn't any loot in the box 'cause some of us over here in Europe are hoping to PayPal the money to you. I don't use it myself, but my wife is an EXPERT on all things Ebay and PayPal related. I'm guessing we need some kind of acount name to send money to? I'm also guessing you don't want that on an open forum? How you like to do this? Also, of course, if PayPal doesn't suit let me know and I'll get some folding money in the post to you ASAP.

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Shipped today. Money to come via Paypal.

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Paypal is not a problem. Just remember to put in a couple of bucks to cover their commision.
Just a reminder to those who haven't sent their prints yet: Remember your return envelop must be large enough to accomodate 11x14 prints.
-
Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Shipped my prints today as airmail letter, hope they will make the deadline!
Also included 19 sheets of info about the photograph.
Intend to pay return shipping through Paypal.
Thanks alot Andrew!
Kind regards,
Patrik

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Finally sent mine today. Sorry about cutting it so close to the deadline :)
I'm new to LF so this was/is a huge learning opportunity. Thanks in advance for the prints everyone is sharing. It's always good to have printing references that you can hold in your hand and look at in different lighting.
Alan.

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
Are there any plans to scan a sampling of the prints and post them here?
It'd be great if the rest of us could see some of the work that's being exchanged...
Just an idea...
-
Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
I think the best bet is for us to start a thread and post the info online.
-
Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
I can't remember who, but someone participating in the exchange said that they could put our prints on line somewhere. Somebody did that last time, too.

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
I'm re-printing mine on Saturday. (ugh) Printed a whole bunch that looked great when wet, but the dry-down effect killed it. I think if I had my own darkroom and practiced more I'd get better at the printing end of things.
What kind of light do you guys judge your prints in? I tend to prefer halogen, but then my prints look a bit dark in normal room light.
No worries, I will still make the 31st!!

Ohh, that hurts... I found that producing 19 prints take time when done totally manually. Had to update my logistics since I only managed to produce 3-4 prints per hour. Managed to improve to 4-5 per hour not counting the drying time.
Judging prints is a hassle. It all depends on how they will be used and mounted, if there is extra lighting or not...I find that I need to make the prints lighter if they are to go behind a piece of glass than if they are being viewed like a postcard or so.
Good luck on Saturday!

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
I'm new to this message board. What are the print exchange rules, and how do I get in on the next one?
Thanks!

Re: 2nd Print LF Print Exchange Group List
> What kind of light do you guys judge your prints in? I tend to prefer halogen, but then my prints look a bit dark in normal room light.
Since you would not normally display a print with a bright light on it, I try to use directional room light. It is a hassle - the more light you can pour on a print, the better dynamic range.
