Iceland does not have a lot of old or large trees. This is a European Larch from 1965. It is one of the largest trees near where I live, and my favorite in the area. I photographed it with my Ebony (which is actually mahogany). I used a 135mm Zeiss Planar t* wide open at 3.5. I wanted to see the quality wide open, as it is a new lens, and it is very sharp up close (all the individual needles that have fallen on the bark are nice and sharp). I also shot it at f16 and, while sharper over most of the tree due to the larger depth of field, it does not have the pleasing dimensionality and isolation of the wide open shot. (The uploading process seems to destroy the image, but hopefully you can just trust me that it is sharp at the point of focus with a pleasant transition to out of focus...)

Justin, I like your photo very much. The ironic plumb line of the swing against the backdrop of trees and clouds is delightful.
