Thanks chassis, Bryan.
Thanks John. I'm not offended by your opinion at all. Actually, your description of my picture as being "optimistic" made me laugh because I thought it was so perceptive. I'll be the first to admit that my pictures can get a little gloomy. It wasn't always like that, but somewhere along the way, and without my even really noticing it, my photos became-I'm not sure if this is quite the right way to put it-psychological, by which I mean that subjects became the things that seem to correspond with my interior condition. While I realize that this might sound strange to say, I've come to the point where I don't feel like I have much to do with what I photograph or how I photograph it. Things are either pictures or they're not pictures. I recognize them. So to get back to your comment, maybe I'm starting to make optimistic pictures because I'm feeling more optimistic!
It's funny, even though I've been photographing pretty intensely for about twenty years now, sometimes I feel like I'm just getting started, as if everything prior was just stuff I had to get out of my system before I could start seeing clearly.

I feel like I'd like to add that I'm not a particularly gloomy person, at least not all the time. I mean, like everyone, I have my struggles, but I'm not a completely miserable wretch or anything. What I was trying to get at above is that, for me, photography has come to be a way of trying to work things out, instead of a say, a search for beauty. Hence the sometimes gloomy pictures.
I'm not sure if that clarifies anything. :-)

Thanks, chassis.
I walked around the rock looking for the dragon profile it is so aptly named. I guess this is it.

Wow, so lovely Austin. And I like the ice photos, Corran, especially the one with the rock. Here are some from the Tucson Botanical Gardens, from November, when it was stil hot, hot, hot.
