Re: Show off your camera!
The shutter works great up front like that. In that position it allows the use of any size back. I have used all the formats from 2 1/4 x 2 3/4 right up to 8x10. The speeds go from 1/10 to 1/1000. I typically use speeds in the range of 200-500. Sometimes higher if the wind is blowing. It all depends on the focal length of the lens, the wind, the speed of the water and so on. It is not really a science but more of an aquired art to be able guess at the needed shutter speed. Lots of film and lots of failed negatives but also lots of fun. I usually get hypnotized by the water when I am working on this project and rarely go home with empty holders.

Annie, fine looking camera you've got there!
Re: Show off your camera!
Thanks Brian... the camera has held up quite well considering it is a least 80 years old.
Re: Show off your camera!
Nice looking camera Annie and understand what you mean (have one like it - but replaced it with a Ritter 7x11)...still there is just something about using an old camera.
Hope to see some of your work from it one day.

My top handle speed graphic (that doesn't say it's a speedgraphic). The nice people at graflex.org's forum said it's probably a first year of production one based on its serial number.
and its ancient lens+shutter which works pretty well.

I have a few random lenses I've picked up but don't use very often. An approximately 200mm brass lens with nice variable apertures from f/8-f/44 and a lens I took off an old Kodak 3x4 folder which seems to have a shorter focal length but is hard to focus on my ground glass.

Here's my Shen Hao TFC45 in action yesterday (iphone photos).
Re: Show off your camera!
Here are two of the Ebony in it's "natural habitat," Yosemite this past Monday. The "image" in on the ground glass is the reflection from behind, not the actual image that the lens was seeing. The fresnel is bright, but not that bright!
