Nice, and looks like a very careful effort of tree-trunk placement.
You must have micro-managed your tripod location! Did you maybe use a viewing card to help, or just your eyes?
Maybe some fine-tuning with back shift?
-
Re: Large Format Landscapes
Patrick,that is beautiful!

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Thanks Heroique, I always use the viewfinder app, to check the composition and for the lens choice.
after that is under the darkcloth for fine tuning, and yes it took me some time

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Thank you h2oman, only 5 day of snow but ...
A friend helped me with an umbrella to protect the Chamonix

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Nice work!
After I shot the waterfall I posted on the last page, I hastily packed up and my wife and I hiked back to the car, as it was raining while shooting. I realized when I got back I had packed some fresh Portra 160 and really should have shot the scene in color, with the rich brown and red tones of the fallen trees. The rain had slacked so we turned around and hiked back! But once I got there the rain was really going again. I carefully setup again while wiping droplets off the lens constantly. Here's the color shot:

Coran,
Your wife must be a saint. Does she carry your tripod too? (Nice shot too.)
-
Re: Large Format Landscapes
Thanks John! Yes she is, and sometimes she does carry a bit of gear for me :). Currently she wants to learn how to shoot my Rolleiflex so I will be getting her some film to shoot soon.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Beautiful!
I must've ridden my bike by that lake on the way from Fairbanks to Anchorage on the Alaska Aids Vaccine Ride in the year 2000. 1500 bike riders and 500 volunteers descended on Palmer on the last night of the ride. Our traveling camp was the 7th largest city in Alaska as it moved from one remote camp site to the next. I find it interesting and curious about "late evening" since that far north evening can be anything from 1:00 in the afternoon during winter to 11:00 at night in the summer. What time is evening in Alaska?

Yes, this is really nice. I always think I need to embrace the wind on occasion, then always forget about it when I'm out there.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
This shat was a tough one, it wasn't the location or the composition, instead it was waiting for the right conditions that was the most time consuming. Each morning I would park at the designated area near the park entrance than walk up to this spot and wait for the light, only on the fourth morning did everything come together for this shot.
This was a 5 second exposure on Fomapan 100 8x10 film with a 2-stop soft grad to hold down the sky. Camera used was the Chamonix Alpinist X with a 240mm lens.
The film was home developed in Rodinal 1+50 dilution and scanned on a flatbed.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Really nice composition. And worth the effort.
-
Re: Large Format Landscapes
Exceptional work Beano; very painterly composition.
I am guessing that we are seeing a negative scan, toned in PS or other software. The tonality and sharpness are arresting.
P.S. That's some darkroom you have on your Flickr page!
-
Re: Large Format Landscapes
I have to agree, you really nailed it, Beano_z. Beautiful.
