I like! Excellent!!!
Nice lens:)
Very nice, Filippo!
Great Filipo, really like it!!
Thank you!! I'm just getting into portraiture (my kid and my cat aside) and it's very intriguing!
Wonderful photo.

Terrific, Sergei!
thank, you. It was last one of set. I would consider this as perfect score - got 6 holders shot (was shooting duplicates of every look, with slightly different settings), and got 6 images out of session (3 looks). Didn't really have to shoot duplicates (as turned out), but i was a bit nervous about new plastic holders i got, so i figured better be safe than sorry.
Fantastic Sergei!
Thanks :)
Its natural Radar's rendering (sharp in center, softer on corners, don't ask me on lens design, i am clueless on tech specs), coupled with ye old dark veil over then lens, plus some dodge&burn. So its combination of natural rendering and post.
Jim Galli was original founder of this lens, afaik, then he sold it and after some other hands i got it ;) He has wee write up on it here, on forum.
It is indeed very close to heliar in rendering of sharp-unsharp transitions and in how highlights are handled.
Fantastic look. I had a chance to get a 12" Radar a while back for a little over $200. After this image gets around, I'll never see one at that price again. Oh well. The Radar is designed like a Tessar, except the rear group is a cemented triplet instead of the cemented doublet found in a Tessar. Overall performance is said to be similar to a f4.5 Tessar. Looks like you have a keeper!
If only it would be in Betax that can actually sync :( there is only so much that one can do with manual syncing (i.e sticking shutter at 1/5-1/2 and pressing trigger by hand)
I just don't think its lens alone that renders image. Its a whole combination of model that is able to take directions, lens, makeup, styling and light sources+modifiers. Best lens in the world can't help when model is PITA, makeup falls off in chunks and lights wouldn't produce consistent results and modifiers works no better then stuff you can put together from cardboard box and ripstop nylon by yourself :)
:) well.. i have similar problem with Compound on me 240mm Heliar that i use on 4x5 - so i literally play this by ear.. But its very hard to do when ambient is high enough. But then again, it forces me to stop using flashes, which might be kinda good for me, as it forces me to rethink certain things. Or just to use Synced Wollensak in packard ;) I am also going to try 16"/6 Dallmeyers Perfac soon, just waiting on new shutter to be made, and mounting to be figured (it doesn't have flange and sticks back quite a bit). If i am right it might be quite cool sharp-ish lens for full face portraits.
Incredible, Sergei. Not so much the lens (nice as it is) but your lighting and composition.

Congrats W. Also of course to your wife. So you haven't slept for 2 weeks :)
Congrats! She's beautiful!
Congratulations! I know a fellow local photographer who recently got into 8x10 to photograph his newborn as well!
Beautiful stuff Sergei, I have had my Radar for a few weeks but haven't found a suitable subject for it yet.

mamypoko and pfiltz,
Beautiful work! I like both your portraits, and I like them together! What characters, and such sensitive treatments! Thank you for posting your excellent work.
Thanks Jay....
Are you located in Seattle? What town? I'm heading up that way to shoot some 4x5 in Sept.
Pfiltz, I really like this one. Lots of character.
Jay, I'll mention it to the photographer whom I visiting with in Seattle... Maybe we can have drinks or what ever one evening. I know we're going to be on the move every day while I'm there, attempting landscapes :)
Thanks Furman... appreciate it.
First LF portrait since May! Awful. Well, I should say developed since May. I had a backlog of undeveloped film. I'm going to try to stay more on top of it.
Anyway, without further ado:
