Thanks for the info. I don't have kids around and I've worked with chemicals just as deadly and always handle them with the greatest care but if I can use a comparable and less hazardous and cheaper alternative I'll give it a try.
Fortunate for me I'm one of the few that can smell hydrogen cyanide gas. In one of my organic lectures the lab next to my class has a cyanide gas discharge. My professor was one who could smell it also and ran from the class into the lab and had the grad students in the lab terminate the reaction. When he came back in the class he described the smell and what had happened and I was the only other person in the lecture hall that could smell it.
