The pre-order site just launched! Yay!

Marc!
Nice website.
Plenty of us have Q/R-loads. I have about 300 sheets of various stocks...
I agree with Randy, quite a nice site design.
The preorder site says available summer 2014. To do that they would have to fill the backer's orders first. So I would expect the camera to ship to backers not later than July 2014. That seems a reasonable expectation. Might be wrong but I hope not.
They said the body was ready, the helical EC sucessful, the spring clip dialed in just right, working on the pin hole cap, I mean whats left? The two simi circlular retaining clips I guess, that and the focus indicator. Yep, sounds like this puppy is almost ready to roll. Just print up some IKEA like assembly instructions and let us backers do the assembly for the 90. How hard could it be?
First day of Summer is June 21.
But in Chicago, summer starts soon as it stays above 60. It is snowing tonight in Chicago...
I lived in Chicago for 9 years Randy. The only thing I remember about summer was that it was hot and muggy. At 11:00 PM it would still be 85F. So in 1978 I fled to western Washington and am still here.
Yes, the preorder site is up but it does not appear to allow you to choose between the 90mm version or the 65mm version. I put in a preorder and want the 65mm version.

I am confused by the website. It seems to be one page that does stuff that distracts me when trying to read. It was hard to read the text and it took me a while to find the pre-order form.
I am looking for simple. That's why the camera is attractive to me in the first place.
with all that said: I can't wait to get my camera!
Drew, I like your signature line, which I find very true...
Don't worry.....Opportunity knocks and money talks - thy will be done.
Happy trails, Steve
Quickload the film holder or quickloads the film???
I already have a Kodak professional Readyload back. All the Readyload backs prior to the last manufactured (The one with the big red button release for the envelopes) were plagued with light leaks and other problems. The last version, the Professional, was light tight, unlike earlier versions, and has a spring loaded pressure plate. It also has the side notches for graflock holders. Mine is very clean, as in like new, and comes in a cordura holder. As for the film envelopes, I have about 160 sheets of both Kodak Readyload envelopes and Fujifilm Quickloads.
The Fuji holders were always considered better quality for the style of shooting, and you find them often on eBay. Same with the Kodak, but wise to avoid the holders earlier than the Professional.
The film envelopes also show up often on eBay, or on Craigslist. Some of this film is expired but kept refrigerated, and some is even current dated.
My plan is to come up with a way to reload the envelopes. I have torn down a few envelopes of the film and think I can come up with a reload holder/method that will allow use of current dated film and a wider range of emulsions using regular cut 4X5 sheet film. This may seem by some to be a bit bothersome and not worth the effort compared to loading DDS holders. However, my goal is to come up with a system for carrying 4 to 6 envelopes of film that are no thicker than one DDS holder.
As they say in many parts of Washington and Oregon..."THE WEATHER IS HERE, WISH YOU WERE BEAUTIFUL!!". In fact, when I was younger and more fit, I had the T-Shirt. That was before my 6-Pack Abs turned into a Pony Keg.
( In response to Zuiko90's post about moving from sultry, windy Chicago to Washington in the PNW (on the Left Coast).)
What season should we call it when Winter takes over Spring? Sprinter? Wing? I'm not sure. It was 25°F and snowing yesterday, but 25°C and balmy two days before that... Lousy Smarch weather.
In any case, we're really very close. The biggest obstacle right now is getting the Pinwide pinhole lens running correctly. The experts tell us that this design should be better for injection, but honestly, no one knows until you run it.
To give you guys some behind the scenes... The only way to economically order a custom etched pinhole is in quantity. So we have 1500 "bad" pinholes from the last order, and we just ordered 1500 of the new design. If those don't work out, it's another ~$1200 down the drain, plus much more than that for the engineering change on the mold. The etching process has a 2 week turnaround, and then the molding process has about a 4 week turnaround. I'm not complaining by any means, but this should give you a tiny bit of context.
We've had a great response to the preorder site so far, and it has given us renewed confidence in the appetite for the Travelwide. Thanks to everyone on this board for helping to spread the word. It really helps!
link wanderlust website only allows pre order for USA and Canada ... but I live in Spain how can I buy these cameras?
The one bit of the camera I am 100% sure I will never, ever use. Can I have my Travelwide now please?
That was kind of a joke...
...but only kind of.
Btw, I saw quite a lot of readyloads/quickloads for sale in Japan when I was there last year. All in-date and many discounted. Anyone looking for a supply might do worse than using one of those Japan middle-man shopping services (or better still, getting friends there buy it for you)
Ben, you should just sell all those old pinholes. People can use them for projects I'm sure, and you can recoup your investment.
number 77 on preorders!!
Ben,
I haven't read through all the pages so I don't know if a lens shade was mentioned. Since there are no movements a fixed efficient lens shade might be useful, one that could screw onto the front element. I don't know how big it would have to be and maybe it would be a pain to carry.
The standard 90mm f/6.8 Angulon takes 40.5mm filters. You can find step-up rings to any size you want and use any number of cheap wide-angle hoods available on eBay for a few dollars.
Absolutely right. A HolgAgon uses the same lens.

The lens hood in the picture is a 58mm thread mounted on a 40.5 to 58mm step-up ring, usually with a filter too. There has been no vignette effect on 6x12. I'm pretty sure it will be fine for 4x5.

I got into LF too late to join the initial kickstarter, and was so disappointed when I found out. . . but now this! I just preordered.
On the tardiness issue--I worked for a company that put together a special book project. It all came together, but two years late. It was worth the wait. I can wait a few months on this one.
Yes, sell the pinholes. I have had one ULF pinhole custom made and bought another online.
There is a pinhole market!
Ben, are the helicals easily interchangeable, and will I be able to purchase one separately?
A 75mm Komura (retrofocus design) should focus, it seems to need about 100mm FFL, so it would be cool to have a 90 mounted on one helical and a 75 on the other...
Hi Ben
Beautiful camera!
Can you offer shipping to Australia?
Is there a retail price for the 65mm conversion kit?
I'm UNABLE to access the PREORDER feature on the Wanderlust camera website. Is anyone else having this same problem?
That's probably the explanation, thanks. I didn't think of it and I wasn't aware that the camera was only being sold in limited numbers. Too bad. I should have bought one when I had the chance. It would be nice if they put up that information on their website though to better inform interested readers.
PM Ben.
Thank you. I'm sorry, but I don't understand the meaning of phrase "PM"? Thank you!
Click on Ben's name (just go back to page 1, first post) and click on Private Message (PM).
Hi guys... There are a VERY small number of cameras still available. The online form still works. Some people have had trouble accessing the order form using old phones or tablets. If you can't access it on your phone, please try using a desktop computer with a recent Chrome, Firefox, Safari or (shudder) IE.
You must enter your full name in the first field, and your full address, including email address. If you leave out any of the information, you cannot continue. If you still have trouble, send us an email!
Ben- do you have a shipping date yet for the KS pledges?
Thanks!
Ben, I was wondering (if it's not privileged information);
Since the first preorder is almost sold out, how big a batch of Travelwides have to be run at Xcentric to be economically viable. I assume every time a batch of parts is run there is a minimum set up charge so running a larger number of parts can be a lot cheaper than running a small batch. Although I'm a backer I might want to order a seperate body module later for a 90 or a 65 or as a basis for a home project.
Thanks for all your's and Justin's hard work.
Well,
Couldn't take the chance to miss my Travelwide (while living in Europe) so i asked a friend in Canada and "i'm on the list" now
It's not very fair for all "non US-Canada" residents that will miss the first batch, but, that's life...
I think the smallest run we could do is 500 units. We get a small volume discount at 1000. Our priority right now is to ship the first batch of 1500, but once that is completely done, we'll open up one final preorder for the second batch. The second batch will have enough "extras" that we can wholesale them to retailers in Europe and Asia, so people finally stop bugging us about international shipping. :)
