Thanks Andrew. While the color may bring out more detail in the terrain I prefer the black and white. They seem more expressive of the mood. But then again it may be just me. As I said I consider myself lucky for getting this shot.

I agree totally with you about "hdr look", too fake for me and I´m tired to see "amazing sunsets with crazy colors". And thats one of the reasons I fall in love by film, particular by LF, we have huge latitude to edit but with moderation.
My "line" of photography have changed a lot since I´m shooting LF, thanks God :)

Thanks Andrew!
180mm its the next to come, for now I only have to lenses, but I dont want to have a big range of them. Makes me work harder and think more before shooting.

Do you know the LSCR bikeway that leads to the Seymour Dam? This was shot right near the very beginning of that, near the ranger cabin.

This is great! It reminds me of my days shooting in Blackwater Canyon before it was reclaimed. It had been stripped of all the timber and deep mined (for coal). The water was the same color. Great shot!

Here are a couple of 8x10 shots taken this past spring. Both taken with a Fuji 300, the first one Astia and taken just a few miles from where I live. The second one on Velvia 50 and taken in the Factory Butte area near Hanksville, Utah. They will probably lose something in the translation because they are such "detail" shots.

I like both, but I must admit I'm partial to cracked mud images, and that one is super.

There seem to be some fog scenes in this thread so I'll post my "Fog of War" from last week at Ft. Casey. TriX 4x5 with 210 mm lens in afternoon gloom.

Right. I never go there because dogs are forbidden but it must be a nice bike to the dam.
Mind you the twin bridge was closed this winter because of a slide so we have stop using the Fisherman trail to get to the start of the LSCR and come back.
Was on lower Seymour this morning taking trees and stumps, will develop this PM.
Cheers,

Beautiful, Jim. The cracked mud is a bit blue for my tastes, but I know you like your images more on the blue side than I like mine. Both are real sweet.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Here are a couple more from Zion in an off the beaten place in the Kolob area. These are from a series of photos that I am working on about the rock walls in both Zion and Capitol Reef. Both were taken with my Ebony 8x10 using a Fuji 600C, the first on Velvia 100 (which I am learning not to use in red rock country) and the second is on Velvia 100F. They are very simple shots trying to show the colors and textures in these wonderful walls.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
They're gorgeous, Jim. I do like the color palette in the second one a little more.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Those are pretty nice, Jim. I have a fascination with that exact subject matter. Very hard to handle. Looks like you are getting a pretty good push out of that 600. I struggle with a 450mm on a 5X7 and feel like I need longer. I'm always checking through a polarizer to see how it affects the stripes and texture in B&W, and trying green, though the last time in CDC I went without anything a few times.
Hope to see more of the series.

Rocky Mountain National Park. Fuji 210mm
10 year expired Velvia 50. All things considered I think it turned out alright, though there's definitely a color shift. Not much in the way of shadow detail either, but still. Hard to beat for the price.

Is that 8x10 or 4x5?
I think that's original Velvia, not Velvia50 I THINK?
The shot is really beautiful and I think you used the expired nature to your advantage here.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Thanks!
That was 4x5. Silly of me not to state so. Right you are on the original RVP. Because of the date I had to expose at ISO 16 for a usable exposure.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Here are a few more images from my trip to Zion last fall. All are shot on 4x5 Fuji Velvia 50 using a Shen Hao HZX-IIa and a 90mm Fujinon SWD f/5.6. I've been updating my blog (http://www.alanbrockimages.com/blog/) with daily recaps if anyone is interested in some behind the scenes info about how I got these and other images. Thanks for looking; C&C always welcome.

That waterfall is absolutely amazing! The sharpness, control of composition and focus, and color are just top notch.
