I just started LF after a very long break. Critique would be appreciated.

I hope that a simple cactus will do...
5x7 Efke 25, taken with one of Jim Galli's monstrous lenses (Bausch&Lomb? Extra RR wide open).
Wonderful. It's hard to give a critique on a single image like this because there are so many possible aspects that might or might not relate to other photographs you might want to make in the series. But I love the overall feel, and the many hooks for the imagination.
Thank you Struan! I am working on a series right now. That was one of the first images that I have and was really excited to share it.
This image is getting pretty old, but it's still one of my favorites; I love the composition. 8 3/4" Verito at f/6-point something, T-Max 100, Pd, hot developer, coaching by Kerik.
Another one. 210mm Nikkor-W. Polaroid type 52 (lovely medium).
That's really nice Will, great composition and lighting. I really like the shadow play on the right surface.
Couldn't resist...two more
This is exceptional Kerik!

Alone, this makes it worthwhile for me to visit this forum!
One leaf, like an arm, seems to gracefully hold on to the vase!
What is the shading on the paper?
Is the surface flat or gloss?
Kind wishes,
Asher

really nice ken.
Miguel,
Those are beautiful. Did you really hand color the second one or is it a PS thing? Very nice.
Renee,
Are they going to name that flower "Galang"?:) Indded, I have never seen that.
Ken,
I can just tell it is made with a Heliar. You seem to have ton of fun with your Helier lenses.:) Beautiful!

Part of a new series I am working on. Still working out lighting issues.
I wish I could image my new species with 4x5, but, alas, have to use a modern VP SEM for it. No more polaroid sandwiches, but from little bits to little bits. At least in VP, I do use tertiary photons (generated by secondary electrons-air interaction) for imaging.
Anyway: cool! Glad to see an other active taxonomist on the Forum.

Asher, that lens is very similar to your PS945. Part of the effect is caused by the nearly 1:3 ratio of a 3" flower macro'd onto a full 8X10 film. The bellows was probably out to 26 28 inches with the 12 inch lens. You will get nearly identical look with similar subject matter and your Cooke. I was wide open at f4. The Cooke begins at f5.6 iirc.
Jim, I have two Haykeye Portrait lenses. The 11x14 and 10x12 group. Both of these lenses have a nice signature. They are great on the 8x10. Can't wait to use them on the 11x14 when I get it done.
Jim
I'm so impressed Jim with the depth of experience with exotic lenses! What is the coverage of the lens? I'm worried whether I could use the Cooke for my 8x10 at at least f 8 for a group of flowers or nude study? I guess if I'm not at infinity, the circle will be bigger anyway!
