Especially from peers.
I take non practicing artist opinions with a grain of salt. Much like a doctor does mine when in diagnosis. Though they are often wrong.
I may be wrong.
The model was willing. It is just an idea.
Some art is good in books not on walls. For eg erotic art, though the Japanese stuff is ok
Long time viewer (of this thread), first time responder.
The thing that gets me about the human vase image posted just recently is not the image, but the comment immediately after the image, where the photographer felt it necessary to tell us that the flowers had been inserted in the models vagina.
I personally think that the concept of the image, without the commentary, had a certain level of merit. I didn't need to know how the results were achieved. For all I know, they could have been in a real vase on a stand behind the model.
But the added 'shock' value of how it was done has distracted away from this concept and (in my eyes) has put this into the , 'ummmm, yeaaahhh, OK then' category.
PS, if the photographer and the model are OK with this and are happy with the results, so be it. That is their choice and all the more power to them.

There is nothing sick about the way I treat my models. I have taken a vow not to exploit them in any way

If you want to be <quote> controversial <unquote> and 'artistic' and whatever, and want to be shown in galleries and museums etc., you're definitely on the right track. I really don't know what else you need to do to be shown, but starting with a concept that shocks the senses seems to be a must. If you ask me what I think of it, the concept is ----- ugly, and I don't like it.
Well not ugly enough to be deleted unlike your language !

Any way it was a genuine attempt to make art not stir the pot.
Tho this was the worst negative and print from shoot.
I will post a better one, I'm pretty sure I can get at least one person liking it

Who knows I might even get into a museum.
Things that make you go MMMMM! I think art is all about pushing the envelope and trying not to do the same as everyone else , As the years go by it get's harder to be different and think of things that havn't been thought of before. I remember in younger days taking a bunch of flowers to my partner of the day as a peace offering for an earlier indescretion the bunch finished up in a similar area about a inch and half higher !! should have got someone to take a photo might have been put in a museum;) Cheers Gary

The corridors of photographic art are littered with the works of self-appointed "emerging artists" who trade excellence of technique for shock value in order to gain a quick "foot in the door" (viz: shortcut) to recognition. Unfortunately, curators are often drawn into this abyss of banality and are driven by the "vox populi" of hedonists and sensationalists to display such work. Ho hum..... each to his own.
I once saw a one man photo exhibition of the artist's nude mother in a dentist chair. He also pasted macaroni to his photos.... He said it gave "depth" to his subject.. It was memorable to say the least. I would put this in the same class "Flowers out of Ass" mmmm but memorable.... now for some "memory wipe" liberally applied medicinal Christmas Rum...
