Re: safe haven for tiny formats
Perhaps this is where to discuss cheaper alternatives
My main LIFE goal right now it watch and photograph the April 8 2024 Total Solar Eclipse as my location has great duration
Would this work? The reviews indicate it worked fine with the 2017 event which I saw here also

Thanks Jon, and yes I am happy to have that tripod for such a big, heavy rig!!
I'm also interested in smaller, camera-only tracking mounts. There seems to be a lot of interest in that lately and a variety of products available.

Thanks, Randy, I hadn't heard about that one. Here's some more: https://astrobackyard.com/star-track...rophotography/

My DIY wide field version is not high-tech enough. It only cancels out the diurnal motion of the earth for about 2 minutes. It's based on the mathematical sine of an angle in degrees is approximately equal to an angle in radians for small angles (< 10˚)

Yes good job and thanks for telling us ‘The Hinge’ only works for 2 minutes!

Thanks. Also the wider the lens the better it works. The method of rotating the barn doors on the hinge limits the time.
Re: safe haven for tiny formats
Nice tuco! I've got to look closer at weight / focal length restrictions on the available products. I want to be able to use it with my Pentax 67 and a long lens so much heavier than the typical DSLR setup (or mirrorless now which are even lighter).
Re: safe haven for tiny formats
I'd like to use Nikon 300 f/2.8.
