Agfa Ansco 8x10 rise, fall controls
I am "refurbishing" a recently acquired Agfa Ansco Commercial View camera which has been partially rebuilt to eliminate rise and fall and tilt controls. In order to get as much usability from the camera in the short term, before getting into rebuilding the front standard to accept the tilt hardware, I am trying to get the front rise and fall controls working. While the geared controls function, there is no lock on the rise, so the lensboard drifts downwards. In the focusing mechanism, there is always a lock. Is there one on the rise and fall control and I can't find it? Any comments gratefully received.

Sometimes the lock mechanism is actuated by pushing or pulling on the knob.

I used to have an Ansco 8x10 -- trying to remember if only one side knob served as the locking knob and the other knob was geared? If they are both geared, then try push/pull of each of the rise knobs.

In these cameras, there was a parallel section of gear rack that engaged the rise/fall pinion if you pushed or pulled, I don't remember which.

I have a couple of these lying around somewhere. I believe there are a couple of brass tabs that wrap on the bottom that act as friction stops. The knobs on either sides work to raise/lower, I don't believe any are for locking. I'll have to check later

Thanks all. I'll try the old "push/pull" method and see what happens!

Thanks for all the responses. As it turns out, if you are facing the camera, the rise knob on the left side pushes in to lock the rise.

Mine locks by pushing in or out on the knob.
