Hi Bob!

Press 70 1841062... Single handle w/crank... additionally I have seen a 2 handle version without a crank, like a cross between the press70 and aero press, is this the final version of the press70 or a different model?

Thanks!

Thanks for doing this Bob. Much Appreciated. After going through about 40 pages of this tread I can't find a serial that is close to mine. Next time you are looking at your lists would you mind dating mine? I believe it is a V (not 100% sure) with a serial number 73242.

That is a IV from around 1960. If a V it would have a lever rise on the front standard. Yours has a knob rise on the back side of the front standard. The IV had tan covering, the V grey covering.

No- just the numbers. The absence of a letter means that it dates from bewteen '72 and '93 - correct?

No, there is no range for a 6 digit MT. They are 6 digit with a letter before the number or 7 digit. Did you leave a digit out? Or, and older model could be 4 or 5 digit.

Where did you find the number? On the accessory shoe?

Hi Bob

I know this is a place for Linhof serial numbers but I'm desperate. I want to replace the bellows on my Linhof Technika III Version 5, S/N 55487 and I'm asked if it's bellows with an off centre front (no clue what that means) and they also also need front and rear sizes just confirm correct model. What sizes and how do I measure these ? I'm a new user of the Linhof and actually a newcomer to large format photography.
I hope I didn't upset anyone by posting this here. Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Contact Precision Camera in IL or Laflex in CA. They will know exactly what you need and install the correct bellows correctly. I was never a service technician.

Light gray was the V, the IV was tan.
You can easily tell the difference. The V has a crank to raise and lower the front standard. The IV had a knob on the back side of the front standard to do the same.

Do you know if the König Universal-Photobag backpack
http://linhof.com/en/koenig-universal-photobag-2/
is available for purchase in the USA? Linhof lists the backpack on their website, but B&H doesn't seem to carry it. B&H does list many Mic Stands, Boom Arms, etc König products but no cases.
I recently borrowed a Linhof Technika system that was stored in a Alu-Case Master Technika (case). I assume that the case was König brand. That case, for sure, was not inexpensive, but none of any of my present cases, including a circa 1980s? RIMOWA, could match the quality and workmanship of that case.
thanks

Anything listed on the Linhof site can be ordered by Omega Brandess so B&H can order it for you through them for you.
The aluminum case is not made by Koenig.

I have the aluminum case for the Technika, #022457. I got it from Camera West in Walnut Creek CA in 2010. Yes, it is very nice. It has a small, about 7 x 18 mm, label indicating the maker's name: "ROX" and their website "www.rox.de".

#022457 may now only be available used or as "new old stock"; it's not on Linhof's current (dated April 2018) price list available on their website. Omega-Brandess shows it but says "call for pricing".

Sorry, don’t have those numbers. When you take the lens off, is there a raised screw head on the body showing? If so it is the first version and won’t accept the 58. If the screw is not raised then it will take it.

Hello folks. Recently acquired a rough shape Super Tech (IV?) I plan on restoring myself--someone painted the camera black and did a poor job of it. Serial number 86586 with a B under the serial number.

Also, is there a way to know which ground glass back fits and doesn't fit this camera? I'm looking at two and though they look similar I've read about a thicker ring on some.

That would be a Super Technika lV 69 from 1950. Any Technika 69 back for a lV or V should fit it properly.

The bubble/level part of the viewfinder on my Linhof 6x12 PC ver 1 has dried out..
Is there a replacement part for this available?
Maybe the entire clear plastic part..or just the bubble part..can it be replaced?
Also... can someone re-silver the frame lines in same 6x12 viewfinder..as these have diminished over time.

If it is in the 612 board yes. The 58mm won’t fit the 1st version and early 2nd ones. All the other lenses, up to 180 fit both versions.

Hello Bob,

I've only recently joined the group as I'm actually medium format (6x7 & 6x9), but I've had my Technika III kit since 1983, serial 48238, which I'm guessing is c1954 - it would be nice to know exactly!

Well, I know what D.B.P stands for, but don't know what A.P.a. means - so I just googled it and one of the top links was page 5 of this thread! The post included "The number is the one i wrote 26177. Then on the left there is written D.B.P., in the middle West-Germany and on the right A.P.a. I live in Europe."

More info - I bought this camera in '83 in London from the Mr Cad shop (they also cut me a cam for a 240 Tele-Arton). So, are the serial numbers for Europe maintained separately, because it seems that my number is lower than that of the last of the 1955s, 49799 .

Any idea of the timeframe that the Color 45s was made? I don't see much mention of it in Linhof literature except for a parts catalog from 1974. In 1976 the HP marketing Price List has 3 models listed:

Kardan Super Color 4x5/ 5x7/ 8x10
Kardan B 4x5/ 5x7/ 8x10

Hi Bob,
A question about the last 2 most recent versions of Linhof multifocus optical finders for 2x3 and 4x5.
1.Are all the glass elements the same in all format versions?..just with the printed scales and masks changed for the format.
As some read for 72mm... and others read for 75mm... at the wide end.
2. And the 6x12 mask sometimes sometimes says 65mm on the front..is that used on the same finder accurately for 65mm view?
thx!

The current version dates back to the 70s. The 23, 45 and 57 versions as well as the one for the 45 Aero Technika EL are all the same except for the calibrations and detents around the eyepiece for focal length and distance.
Originally the shortest focal length marked on the 45 was 75mm but after the 72 became available that became the shortest focal length.
612 masks marked with focal length as well as format are for Technar and Technorama 612 PC finders only.

Bob, thanks for your reply. It definitely isn't a Medcin model. It is in unmolested original condition and was set up for 90mm, 135mm and 210mm lenses and appears to have been sold as a well equipped kit. The 90mm Schneider lens that was sold with it has a serial number dating it to 1949, so I believe the camera can't have been made much earlier than that. Do you have any records of Technika serial numbers in the 23XXX range? I'm curious where the range starts, since it seems serial numbers 23355 and 23357 have shown up on this thread. Sorry, it can not be a lll as it was produced during or before WWll.
That serial number series was not used after WWll for any Linhof 23, 45, 57 or 810 camera.
It isn’t impossible that that 90 was added after the war. Or maybe a dealer that survived the war sold it after that 90 was made.

Since multiple cameras that are clearly postwar Technika IIIs have turned up in this thread with serial numbers in this range, I’d propose the database of serial numbers is incomplete. This would not be hard to understand given the postwar environment.

When I asked Linhof about this camera, they also identified it as having been made between 1948 and 1950, based on its construction. The focus scale was engraved for 90 and 210mm lenses and stamped for the 135mm. So I have every reason to believe that the 90 was paired with it from Linhof and the 135 Zeiss lens was paired with it at the time of sale.

I just picked up a Linhof Technika III. It comes with the rangefinder, bellows in excellent condition, no major dings, scratches, etc. and over all in great condition.

Serial Number is - 33596. Does that place it in ca. 1954?

Second, there were no lens boards with it, and the only Technika board I have is from a later model (pebbled black, beveled bottom edges. Does any one have the specs on the original lens boards (w x l x d)? Not sure of the proper lens board, other than photos of III's don't have Linhof crest. I can probably make a lens board given the specs.

Thanks.

What is the significance of the first letter/number that prefixes the last 6 digits: "B", "C", "6"?

Note that the number following C is smaller than the number following B. Which of these serial numbers are more recent? What are the manufacturing years for these 3 serial numbers?

Where can one find the ranges of Linhof serial numbers manufactured in the past 10 years (2011-2020)?

You can’t find a current record of numbers.
Using a letter before numbers lets them use a shorter sequence of numbers that have to fit on the accessory shoe.
The earlier the letter the older the camera.
They started with B on the MT in 1990.

Does that mean the camera with the serial number starting with C was manufactured later than the one starting with B although the number following C is smaller than the number following C?

That is not a Linhof catalog number.

Old listings had alphabetical catalog letters. Newer ones had a 5 digit numerical number like 003317 which is the Expert Twin Shank tripod.

B was used through 93. C would be later then 93.

Thanks, Bob. Does that mean the the 6 digit serial numbers were reset to zero (or some other lower number) after Linhof started using C? Because I have seen the 6 digit serial number after C is smaller than the 6 digit number after B (as mentioned above).

Can tell. When they went to B the first 6 were a continuation of the previous 7 digit # with the B being first and the last digit left off. So I presume that the later number series are the same.
But these numbers do not tell how many total cameras were made.
They tell year, month day series and number.

No. It’s a Master Technika if the number is B511251. 1990.
If there isn’t a letter before the number then it isn’t.

This particular camera has no rangefinder, but the right side has a small "riser" on it that is where the RF would have gone. Was there a "no rangefinder" variant of the Master Technika? It's a listing on you know where from Japan if that means anything.

No but people sometimes removed it.
If it was a 2000 there would be a horizontal lever to focus the front standard when it is inside the camera body. The lever would be beneath the front standard when the standard is inside the body.

Since they are current products parts aren’t rare.
But maybe you meant to say accessories are rare because most heads, dollies, etc. are discontinued. But not spare parts.

That should have been the last of them. They made maybe ten of them and none after the war. If I remember correctly the first was made for Hitler’s photographer, so he may have had two of them.

Was the first 5x7 Technika the III of 1950?
It looks to me in trying to research it that the Technika 1 (1936-1944) & Technika 2 (1945-?) were only 13x18 plate-holder types.
Was there a post-war 5x7 model out before the III of 1950?

Did the Master Technika Classic come out at the same time as the 2000 in 1995? or did it arrive a few years later? The earliest I see it referenced is 2002.
Other than different strap lugs and a couple of other cosmetic items it appears (to me) to be nearly identical to the Master Technika of 1972...
Also I am guessing the 3000 replaced the 2000 around 2008?

My oldest Linhof price list is 2008-2009 and shows the Master Technika 3000 and describes it as "New". Actually I have an older Linhof price list from "Kling Photo Company" "A Division of Berkey Photo, Inc>" It's dated June 15, 1972.
