Hello,

I've been trying to search online for what people use for their 4x5's but I think my monorail is a bit heavier than the average 4x5. (weighed in with my 210mm lens at around 13 lbs)

Im currently looking at Gitzo, the 2 series 2531 or the 3 series 3541.

I will be using the camera outdoors as well as indoors, and probably mostly will have my car near by. My main concern is stability. Would a 2 series suffice or should I be looking at the 3 series?

As for the head, I was looking at the Manfrotto 229. Would this be a good mate? (I dont like using ball heads on view cameras)

Thanks in advance.

I think you should be looking at a tripod that can handle, at minimum, 10 kilos (22 lbs), so I hope that partially answers your Gitzo query.
I've used an Induro AT413 for all my LF cameras, it's a great alternative to Gitzo, and very solid.
The 229 head is an excellent choice, one of the best 3-way heads ever made, imo.

I'd lean toward the Gitzo 3 series. The 2's will be far too light.
I'm not a fan of the hex QR plates from manfrotto myself but many use them and like them. I'd consider one of the low profile Gitzo heads.

Gitzo Series 3 (320, 1320 etc) and the heaviest low profile panning head works great for me.
