I was thinking about using my splitter on my 5X7 Deardorff for the first time and unfortunately I'll be packing for the trip after dark so I can't experiment in the backyard. Ballpark, what lenses would be a moderate wide angle and normal for a negative that is roughly 2 1/2 x 7"? I guess I'm shooting a reasonably close ratio to a 4X10, but smaller. Not sure my question even makes sense for a panoramic format, but any suggestions would be appreciated. Many thanks.

The width is the same, diagonal isn't. When i shoot 4x10, i use all the same lenses, maybe sometimes wider since i'm not including much of the sky.

Not sure I understand your response. When you shoot 4x10 you use all the same lenses as when?

as when I'm shooting 8x10.

Kevin,

What vinny is getting at is the diagonal changes from 12.8" to 10.8", so his wide angle lens will of course cover but will not include as wide an angle of view on the panoramic 4x10 format.

Your 5x7 changes from a 8.6" diagonal to 7.4" diagonal on the 2.5x7 format. This is only an inch bigger than the 4x5 format diagonal. You might try some of your wide 4x5 lenses (e.g. 90mm) to see if they could cover the 2.5x7 panoramic format.

The calculations above are based upon the nominal inch size.

Enjoy your trip,

Len

I use the same lenses for 4x10 that I use for 5x7: 110 (occasionally), 165, 240, 300, and 450. Simplifies packing too.
