I was recently given a few boxes of 3 year past "use by" date Velvia iso 50 film. I don't think it has been refridgarated.

Would I be wasting time and processing dollars shooting this on an upcoming trip?

What would the results look like when this film goes out of date?

Thanks!

Jeff,

It depends a lot on the storage conditions. Probably worth shooting one sheet, and springing for having it processed. Age/heat fog will give you low overall density and a magenta cast.

I buy all the outdated (read: cheap!) Velvia I can find, but that's typically from photo suppliers who have had it stored in the fridge. I'd definitely follow Jim's advice, and then some: shoot a few sheets from each box. Processing is cheap when compared to the cost of throwing away perfectly useable film.
