Nationally Known Photographer, Author and Instructor
Dan Burkholder
Comes to South Georgia to Offer a Two-day Workshop
Mastering the Creative Techniques of Digital Photography
Saturday and Sunday, February 9-10, 2013, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
His award-winning book, Making Digital Negatives for Contact Printing, has become a standard resource in the fine-art photography community.

In this two-day class you’ll learn powerful —yet easy —techniques that let you move your photographs from the commonplace to the inspiring. If you know the basics from any image editing software (Elements, Photoshop, Picasa, Lightroom, etc.) you’re ready for this class.
• Learn meat-and-potatoes digital techniques to create images with vivid midtones, glowing shadows and milky smooth highlights.
• See how Dan’s “Diagnose and Treat” approach guides you to successful prints with less time and frustration. You’ll learn the techniques that fit your style of shooting and editing, and which software is worth your money.
• Master a non-destructive workflow, from Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw to Photoshop. You’ll never be more than a double-click from changing your mind about image color, tonality or sharpness.
• Master Quick Mask Mode. (It’s easy and oh-so powerful!)
• Learn shooting techniques that simplify your camera handling while adding control and accuracy.
• Learn how to go beyond the recipe steps of High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging, delving into the creative “art and craft” techniques that put soul and intrigue into your images.
• Discover the strong points of Photoshop CS6’s new HDR processing and when you should resort to third party HDR software to capture renditions from realistic to grungtastic.
• Learn color management, from an instructor who never sinks into geek-speak.
Prerequisites
If you’ve been baffled in the past by Photoshop, this is the course for you but you will need to have a basic understanding of Photoshop CS4 or later. “Basic understanding” means you don’t go lizard-eyed when you hear the term layer or curve. If you have the basics, Dan will demystify everything else you’ve wanted to understand in a friendly atmosphere.

Equipment
A laptop with Photoshop installed (Photoshop CS4 or newer; CS6 would be great)
Your own images that need work
Chargers and memory card readers
Camera that can shoot raw images (instead of jpegs or tiffs)
A tripod and cable release are highly recommended
