View Full Version : Long spikes or short spikes?

I'm contemplating the purchase of some spikes for my Feisol tripod. As they're offered in both long and short flavors I thought I'd ask the collective for opinions. It's not like I've ever been in a situation where I felt spikes would make my setup more secure, but a single set would be a sensible lightweight thing to have in my bag just in case, and a set of each might be overkill.
The floor is open, ladies and gentlemen.
Purely a matter of fashion. That is, they should be long if you contemplate wearing wellies or snow boots when using the tripod. Short, if plain shoes will do. ;-)

Brilliant answer! I think a set of each is in my future.

The stainless spikes I bought from them thread into a socket, so can be adjusted for depth. Guess I bought the longer ones and am glad I did. Since I mainly photograph outdoors, I leave the spikes on. They really help.

I use the long ones. I would suggest getting a spare set should one get lost one in the field.
