Very nice short overview. Good find. There's also the film Curtis made out there somewhere, restored, hopefully making its way to DVD...

Maybe we have an Edward Curtis revolution on our hands?

When my grandmother died, I found among her paintings an original sepia toned silver print of the Vanishing Race (that appears in this clip). It was in the original Curtis frame with a label on the back. My mother said I couldn't have it because my aunt wanted it for the frame. I told them they were crazy and rescued the photo from some impending tollpainting disaster.

Thanks for posting that Kirk.

He made some extraordinary photographs, made all the more extraordinary with the understanding of how difficult they were to make back then.

Here is the book referenced in the article. Looks like it may make it on my christmas list. Sounds like a fascinating read.
