Just curious if some one has mounted a speed graphic curtain shutterto a large brass lens to allow to shoot normal film with old brass lens. If you have done this, please share your project, better show picture or design plan so I could follow up easily.

This isn't quite what originalphoto was asking about, but here is a video clip someone may find of interest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELIKeCtT6Oo&feature=autoplay&list=ULc0xIKWOXM6E&playnext=1
I suspect I find this fascinating as much for the milling machine pictures as the end result, since I love machine tools. I intend to try a version of this when I get caught up on dozen of other projects. I have a Speed without bellows needing something to do. I don't intend to go to as much work as they did in the clip. Whether it has a practical application remains to be seen, but I have thoughts of shooting moving locomotives using a 19 inch lens.

There was someone on Ebay a year or two ago Leonard, who sold 8x10 backs with a graflex speed graphic shutter reducing it to 4x5.

That is interesting. I didn't see that on eBay. I hate to hear of Speeds being hacked up, but in reality there is no shortage of them in the world, and some are damaged enough to make fixing them questionable. Graphic bellows are pretty stout, but if they are badly damaged, probably not worth the expense of buying new.

I recall something about optically it being better to have the shutter inside the lens (leaf shutter) or in front of the focal plane. I think the Sinar behind lens shutter indicates the optical theory may not be of much importance in the real world. I do wonder if there may be a difference in shutter induced vibration between a front mounted roller blind shutter and a rear focal plane shutter. But probably most front mount Speed Graphic shutters will be based on a 2X3 Speed and be smaller and lighter than a rear mount 4X5 version.
