Help with a Schneider 90 f/8 - old #00 one

I just bought a late 50s SA 90mm f/8 sight unseen. It supposedly had a hesitant, but accurate, shutter. It shows up and the shutter is actually nice.

But here's my issue, some of the front element is loose. I don't know if it's supposed to be like this or not

That, and I need to find a #00 recessed Toyo-View board.

If not for the word "bought" in the original post, I'd suspend my Versalab laser on a glass plate over the lens sitting on another glass plate. Adjust the glass plates so they are parallel. Then set the lens on the bottom glass plate and shine the laser into it into that loose rear element. I'd adjust the element so the diffraction pattern shows a nice concentric bullseye pattern and cement it in place. That would turn a piece of junk into a usable lens.
Otherwise I'd get it back to the seller asap :)

The piece you're holding is the second element of the second group. As ic hinted, it should be cemented to the second group's first element.

If it can be returned, return it.

Any reason you wanted the lens in a #00 shutter? I would return the lens of I could. Lots of 90mm SA's on the market especially in #0 shutter.

The shutter was most likely hesitant because of the loose element contacting the blades intermittently.
As it is, the lens is junk. Return it if at all possible; you'll have to have it recemented if you want a useable lens.

I'd prefer it in a #0, as those lens boards are a dime a dozen. I just got a good deal, thinking I could live with a hesitant shutter. I was figuring that it was a paperweight now, there is what seems to be the remnants of cement on the loose piece too.

Anyway, I'm getting my money back. Thanks for the help.
