Okay.

Do I need a special camera to do tintype?
If not, how can I get started taking pictures on my Sinar F2?
I read somewhere that, at least in the old days, the pictures had to be processed immediately following exposure. Is this still the case?
How different is the process for developing tintypes from developing a 35mm/4x5 negative?

Thanks.

Oops, sorry about that Camera Eccentric link, that is not at all related to your query.
Google will also turn up a host of relevant web pages.

Thanks, though, I'll keep looking.

A lot of information here:

1. you do not need a special camera to shoot wet pate collodion images. (tintypes, ambrotypes or wet plate negatives)
2. You can use your Sinar. All you need is a wet plate holder or a converted film holder.
3. Yes, you have to coat, sensitize, expose, develop and fix your images immediately. It sounds challenging but its really not that hard once you get the hang of it.
4. working with wet collodion is very different than just developing film
here is a nice article about shooting wet plate and how to convert a film holder
http://unblinkingeye.com/Articles/WPC/wpc.html
also I make wet plate holders
http://incameraindustries.com/
if you are interested in starting with wet plate I would recommend taking a workshop or learning from an local artist.
there should be a few people shooting close to you

Anybody try the Rockland Colloid Tintype Parlor Kit from freestyle? it sounds like the sheets may be thin enough to put into a 4x5 holder.

the Rockland Colloid Tintype Parlor Kit is not a wetplate process. its a dryplate process and very unpredictable. I have seen "tintypes" made from this kit crack and peel right in front of my face. I might seem like it would be easier but I think wet plate is easier to work with.
