Well, my question is quite simple: what can one expect from this film? I searched internet a lot, and the only thing I found is Agfa's PDF of this film (and I'm not good at interpreting this data). I know that its sensitivity is pushed towards near IR and its blue sensitivity is a bit low. I plan to develop it in Pyrochat HD. It supposed to be the same film as Rollei retro 80. How can I compare it to Ilford Delta 100? The obvious answer is to test it. I'll do that as soon as possible, but right now I need to wait, because I have some upcoming workshops to do first.

Thank you
Marko

Rollei Retro 80S is a high contrast film, but not as high as "document" film...
I had good result with Obsidian Aqua...
The grain is very very fine, et the detail are precisely rendered. Sky is OK with a yellow/orange/red filter. The shadows are very dark...

Hope this helped

Hi Marko , i use rollei retro 80s in 35mm . I confirm that it is a contrast film : i use Rodinal in 1:50 80 iso or Rodinal 1:100 stand 64 iso .
In hc110 i use in diluition h 1+63 and 160 iso ; i found it here http://aurelien.le-duc.perso.neuf.fr/Photo/The%20Rollei%20RETRO%2080s.pdf

My photo ...... can help you ....

Thank you!

Photos looks promising, but one needs to keep in mind, that this low res internet photos don't have much in common with "real thing".

I'm slowly collecting data and inpaitently wait to try this film out. I think I'll need to adjust my developing method as well. Will try my usual method in Jobo tank, but since this film is so thin I don't think it'll stay in reel's slots.

How does this film react to push/pull development? I mean, if it's too contrasty, is it possible to open up the shadows by overexposing and then underdevelop? My output is Pd/Pt, so I don't mind contrast in the first place.

Don't worry !! The agfa 80s is a great film with a particular look ( like yellow/orange filter , so dark grey sky.... and different color's separation) . Overexposing and then underdelop ? .. i always prefer open shadow , so i use this film in 64 iso .... in rodinal !

I can give other information : i have a document but is in italian .... What do you use ? HC110 ..... d76 , ......?!

light sensitive till 750 nm , great density , resolution 200 lp/mm

My general dev recipe ...

RODINAL 1+50 80 10 min 20C agitation classic rodinal ( 30 sec , than 1 x 30 sec)

RODINAL 1+100 64 iso (40 ) stand 1 hour or semistand 45 min 20C

HC110 1+63 H 160 iso

HC110 1+63 H 80 iso 12 min 20C agitation for 30sec , than 2x60sec

HC110 1+31 B 80 iso 6 min 20C

Hi Aldo,

Unfortunatelly I can't use Italian document. I know few words of Italian, but a bit more than grazie mille is beyond me. I'm thinking about either Rodinal or Pyrocat HD. The first one would be nice to try, as I never used it. I usually use Pyrocat, but since I don't have UV densitometer, I don't know to adjust process for Pd/Pt prints. Up til now, I scaned negatives and print digital negatives. But now, I would like to try direct contact printing on Pd/Pt emulsion.

i have only a different document (compared to dev chart), testet by an italian photo lab.

It's only a starting point ......

Hi Aldo,

Thank you for all the information. Curently I'm running the second of two Autumn workshops, and I can't test new stuff. But as soon as I'm back home I'll cut some film and start testing.

Cheers,
Marko
