Hi!

Since I got addicted to contact printing, I have come to miss something larger than 8x10" on the wall. I've been thinking of adding an 11x14" back to my arca and would love to hear you who know this format how it is to step up from 8x10. I like being outdoors, so it will be for field use!

Hi,
I am an Arca devotee and have five of them...however, my 11x14 is a Chamonix and it's a complete joy to use. I carry it on an aluminum meat hauler pack frame that hunters use with 3 lenses, a filmholder and darkcloth and the whole affair is only about 27#. If you remember the sensation moving from a 4x5 to 8x10, things like focusing being easier, etc. it's the same with moving to 11x14. The only issue might be getting lenses to cover, mine are a 305 G-Claron, a 355 G-Claron and a Nikkor 450M...all just excellent. Just do it!!!

If you have the wall space, why not 14x17?

Yea 14x17 sounds wonderful, but how does it differ from 11x14 in clumsiness, depth of field issues, lenses...etc

To be prepared, or to prevent sticker shock, do your price-shopping homework first.
Everything is rarer, (less common) and costlier;
ie...camera, lenses, film holders, larger developing trays, heavier tripod(?), increased amounts of developer, etc...
Then there is the film itself.
For some, (many) flavors of 11 X 14, you may need to get into those, once-a-year, co-op, bulk film purchases.
Ilford's and Canham's yearly sign-ups come to mind.

11x14 film is probably easier to get than 14x17. I'd love that format but film is scarcer and so are filmholders..Lotus and Chamonix are at about $550.00 each for new ones!

Ilford's and Canham's yearly sign-ups come to mind...Someone who's willing to make the minimum purchase of 11x14 320TXP is doing so right now through Keith Canham. If anyone wants to piggyback a box or two for themselves, contact Keith immediately; he's about to place the order with Kodak.
