View Full Version : SDS/Prazio Anti-Newton Oil - which film cleaner?

Having recently tested a Scanmate 3000 drum scanner which I'll be picking up on Monday, I started looking for some basic materials for wet-mounting. SDS Anti-Newton Oil, as well as fine drum polish by the same manufacturer, is what I found right away, as well as 0.100mm "Montage Foil" polyester film. Kami stuff (1" and 1/2" tapes, cotton wipes and DC 2001 drum cleaner) is arriving next week, but no film cleaner, either SDS spray or Kami RC 2001 (same as "red" Tetenal). Could anyone share their experience with cleaning SDS oil from film? Which cleaner works well? I'd mostly be scanning Velvia 50 and Efke 25 (4x5").

Hi,

at the beginning I also used the oil and found it to be quite a mess.
I was using the SDS film cleaner and had to clean for half an hour ...
Even then, the film never seemed _really_ clean after that

Now I'm using the Kami scanning liquid KAMI SXL 2001, which itself is more or less a cleaning liquid,
and dries within seconds by itself ... so you don't get dirty film and need no film cleaner ...

Maybe that's an considerable alternative?

Best,

Martin,

Were you using this type of SDS oil?

Also, are you perhaps familiar with these particular polyester films?

Thanks.

Best,

I've heard that before but never found it the case with my own drum scans. There's usually some residue that needs to be wiped off.
rookie, I use Rexton and Aztek mylar. I DO have some other mylar I ordered after hearing good things but it arrived dusty and isn't as clear as the Aztek stuff. The company sent me another pack and it was clean but this isn't an area to cut corners so I've stuck with the aztek.

I don't remember exactly but I think so ...
only used it once and then after the tedious cleaning session
instantly changed to the Kami Scan Fluid.

Don't know those foils ...
think I've still some SDS foild
but am now using the Aztek Mylar ... not cheap (circa 1 EUR per foil) but excellent quality....

Well you can wipe it off or wait for like 20 seconds for the transparency to air-dry...
