I'm quite new on the forum so forgive me if this question has cropped up before. I'm in the process of putting together my Field Camera Kit, and wondered if any one had successfully used a 65mm lens on a Toyo Field Camera? I have managed to use my large 90mm Nikkor, but the bellows on the Toyo are well and truly squashed right down. The 65mm will probably need a reccessed plate, do they exist for this camera?
Thanks MaxH

According to Toyo on the 45All you can use a 65mm on a flat board without movement other than infinity focus.

Assuming your 45A is the same in this respect as the 45All which I believe it is, then I would use a recessed board if you want any movements at all.

Yes, Toyo made recessed boards.

That's not really that bad when you figure Max will probably only need one. A 90mm will work great on a flat lens board.

And I know someone selling a used recessed board in excellent condition at a good price right here on this forum :)

Toyo makes a 12mm recessed board and used to make a 25mm recessed board. I have both. My Nikkor SW 90mm f4.5 lives in the 12mm recessed version and makes using movements a little easier than it used to be in a flat board. I bought the 25mm recessed board in anticipation off getting a 75mm someday...

Hi Max,

I used a Nikon NIKKOR-SW 65mm f4 lens with a regular/non-recessed lensboard on my TOYO metal field camera shooting 4x5. I used a little rise and got some vignetting in the upper left corner of the photos below. However, the combination does work...

Hello,

I use an Apo-Grandagon 55mm lens with a recessed lensboard on my Toyo 45A, on both 4x5 and 6x12. Effectively no movements but it works.

And if you need the deeper Toyo recessed board, please email me. I have one lurking in my closet looking for a new home...

Good luck.

Mike

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your example, definitely some vignetting going on there.
A quick visual test with my newly acquired 65mm, on a regular board, works better than I hoped. I'll post something myself when I get in the field to test it properly.

Regards Max
