I recently returned from Puerto Rico in what was my my second trip to the island with a 4x5 camera.

I shot 70 sheets of film in ten days. Many were portraits wherein I took two or three exposures per subject. I shot one box of B&W and the remaining was Kodak Portra.

It was hot and humid in PR, so I tried my best to manage my film correctly.
People are generally very friendly; not one person denied me a portrait.

Here are some shots taken with my phone. LF images to follow soon.

These were taken at the Central Coloso Sugar Refinery in Aguada, PR, which was closed in 2003. The site dates back to 1822, and was worked by slaves until around 1875. It's quite monumental in size and there's a large portion of the facility which is fenced and guarded 24/7. I was able to get into the main part of the grounds after being persistent. The security guard asked that I send a him a picture, and so a deal was struck. It seems as though the current owners are looking to level the facility, but members of the community are organizing to keep the landmark standing, as it is a site of historic significance.
