View Full Version : Silver Coating

So I am looking to get into Alternative processes a little bit, and I want to coat my own paper with an emulsion. I am looking for an emulsion that is like the traditional silver black and white emulsion that comes already applied to papers from manufactures. I understand that coating a piece of paper myself will not have the same range of values that a professional made piece from say Ilford would have but I am looking for something close.

The reason I do not want to just go out and buy the paper is because I want to try dying, and toning it after contact printing on it with an 8x10 negative.

Also should I just save the hassle of trying to coat my own paper and use Ilford Fibre or a similar brand? How well can these be dyed with non traditional dyes like say tea toning (usually used in cyanotypes)...

Thanks a bunch
