The Chamonix website says in the main text description regarding the 8x10 camera weight 3900g. At the bottom of the page in talking about improvements it say that these improvements have added 1 kg
OK, so what is the true weight of the latest 8x10 camera 3.9kg/8.5LBs as one might understand form reading the body of the page
Or 3.9kg + 1kg = 4.9kg/10.8 Lbs as one might understand from the whole page?
thanks for the help!

The page says:

"Here is the summery of changes:
1.
...
5. Weight increased 1kg (2.2 pounds)"

And the spec is consistent with the description and says:

"Weight: Canadian Maple: 8.42 pound/3820g"

I'm not sure what the confusion is. The older camera was lighter (i.e. around 2.8Kg). It's not confusing at all. In fact, it's written rather well.

The confusion is that when I looked at that page a couple of years ago I believe the specs said that the previous version was 3900g. So if you add the 1000g for the improvements it would make the new total 4900g or closer to 10 lbs.
It seemed that the information on the page only changed it that it listed the improvements and added weight - like I said I'm confused.
I would love it if someone who has either the earlier version or the 2nd version could actually tell me or weigh it.

Well spotted... this post from 2006 should answer your question:

I suggest you find the seller who goes by the name of viewcamera-cn on the auction site who sells these cameras and ask this as a question about the product. I've seen people ask about the weights of their filmholders and the seller has responded with answers. So, shouldn't be an issue.

That eBay seller is not authorized by the factory to export Chamonix products; Hugo is.

Asking the maker is best but the OP did say "I would love it if someone who has either the earlier version or the 2nd version could actually tell me or weigh it". As he has already been to the manufacturer's website, there probably is a reason why the OP's asking here instead of asking the manufacturer? At any rate, asking this particular seller can't be much worse than anyone else if you explain to them the situation. Otherwise one would need to wait until an owner spots this thread, weighs their camera and tells us.

Asking the maker is best...Hugo is in direct, regular contact with the factory and its owner. He has always replied promptly to my email messages, most recently the same day I wrote to him (yesterday). Asking Hugo is essentially asking the camera's maker,

I dont have a scale with me now, but as far as I recall, the newer version with maple wood is lighter than the older version with Walnut wood.
