Is there a way to mount a Canham 617 back on a 5x7 Norma—I don't believe it opens wide enough to simply slide in. I don't mind getting creative.....

Well, as soon as I posted this it occurred to me to go to the expert, so I called Keith Canham who had a number of good ideas. They ranged from the creative use of rubber bands on up to more elegant solutions. I have a lot to think about, but would certainly still welcome any ideas.

Thats what I did. I came up with something pretty lightweight and cheap using 2mm plate aluminium and 1/4" balsa ply (Arca-Swiss 5x7" in my case)

I know I have posted this before but I use my 6x17 Canham back on my Sinar P 5x7 and a modified 5x7 Sinar F rear standard. Below are pictures of it on the Sinar P. Basicly I have two 5x7 ground glass backs that I swap out to shoot 6x17. One has the back attached to it and one is a ground glass I taped off to match 6x17.

Hope this helps.
