Getting White in Color neg.

Hello!

I am doing some poster reprints with color neg and printing to RA-4 paper.

However I cannot for the life of me get a clean white, I always get a light/dull gray.

I cannot vary the print exposure without making the other colors too light.
I have tried different density negatives, but am having the same trouble.

I am using Fuji pro 160s and printing onto Fuji CA type II.

Is there another film that would print better than what I am using?

Should I push the film to raise the contrast?



Or... as a last result, is there anyplace in Los Angeles that can print me a new large format
negative from a digital file, without my having to sell a kidney?

Any info will be much appreciated.

Kodak actually made the perfect film for that until that to was discontinued, it was called Ektacolor ID film, originally made for "mug" shots in 35mm but later in 4x5, 5x7, and 8x10. I shot my last EID in 4x5 about 5 years ago and its whites were "snow white". I photographed a white cruise ship in NY harbor in 8x10 for that.

Since you can't get there from here try this, under expose 1 stop and push process 1 stop.

What is a poster reprint? A copy neg of a poster? Ca type 2 is pretty flat paper, you could try cutting down a roll of the type CN and see what that does. You could also scan and output as a digital c-print after compensating for the contrast. I find that for critical work, a neg made from a digital file to C-41 film to be not so nice.

Pretty straightforward to do with a contrast increase mask, but that's an acquired skill.
