Wondering about the coverage of the longer Cooke Apotal lenses (>400mm).

I understand them to be Apo-Tessar design, but cannot get much more information than that.

Will they be around 45-55 degrees?

Thanks.

Lachlan, there are Apo Tessars and then there are Apo Tessars. Arne Croell has compiled CZJ's coverage claims for their post-WWII Apo Tessars at: http://www.arnecroell.com/czj.pdf . I've done the same for Apo Nikkors, some of which are tessar types, at: http://www.galerie-photo.com/apo-process-nikkors-en.html

I have no idea what you mean by "coverage" so can't commit myself in a way that you'll find helpful. You'll have to read the makers' claims with your tastes strongly in mind. Remember that the longer the lens, given prescription, the less the coverage.

IMO, 55 degrees reflects far too much wishful thinking. For that matter, 45 degrees seems a bit optimistic, but peoples' ideas about "coverage" cover a broad range.
