I've begun shooting with 14x17 ULF and plan to create palladium prints, eventually. In the meantime, I am looking for a scanner to work with for now. There doesn't seem to be anything on the market that can handle that size without stitching (that's affordable)...correct? I didn't want to stitch, but I guess I may have no choice. Any relatively inexpensive suggestions out there? Thanks

David, stitching is almost a no-brainer with Pshop these days. The most affordable way to go would probably be something like the Microtek 9800XL with TMA.

Aztek has two options, the Howtek 7500 drum scanner and their Aztek Plateau, which I think does 14x18.... Neither is rock bottom cheap. There are also Eversmarts and such...

You are in the land of the Scitex, there must be one around you could try.

I am now looking at a few different scanners for scanning my 14x17" b/w negatives and wondering if anyone has recommendations. Options at this point are mainly stitching with: Microtek Scanmaker 9800XL ($300-500 Range);Used creo Jazz+ $1k; Epson Expression10000XL $1K-2K...open to advice from users of these scanners or other options...thanks!

I used a Microtek 9800 XL for scanning ULF negatives and was disappointed with the results. It was not sharp and there was a lot of streaking. I have not used a Creo Jazz+ but own a similar machine, an Eversmart Pro, and it works great for scanning LF and ULF negatives. The Epson Expression 10000XL is a good scanner, not as good as the Creo machines, but it might be easier to set it up with a computer and operating system. Another option, same generation as the Microtek 9800XL, and predecessor of the Expression 10000, is the 1640XL. All of these machines, except the 9800 XL, have focusing systems.
Unless you plan to print at more than 3X all of the above scanners, with the exception of the Microtek, should give you more than enough resolution. And in any event file size will limit your scans to about 1200-1600 dpi. A 1600 dpi file from a 14X17" negative is very, very big!

In my opinion, these two can work for you-Howtek 7500 and Microtek Scanmaker 9800XL.
