I just got back an 8x10 Velvia slide from being developed. Is this uneven development? I darkened it a lot to make it more visible. It's only visible in the blue sky. It makes kind of an arc through the sky. A bit subtle at web resolution with the full photo but, once seen, kind of ruins the gradient in the sky. Or could it be from scanning? Scanned on an Epson 4990.

I've shot/scanned alot of velvia but never seen this. I have seen similar effects from developing b+w film in hangers/tanks.

I have had a similar problem on a couple of 4x10 shots of Factory Butte in snow and fog. The areas of the sky had these areas of banding that ran up and down like yours and were very subtle like yours. Lab said it was the film, however, other pieces of film from the same batch of film did not exhibit this problem when develop later. My "uneducated" guess is a development problem. Jim

The lab always says it's the film, and the film company tells you it's the lab.

I've seen this in clients film that I scan and in an 8x10 that was done by a third party - never seen it in my own work which gets developed myself in a Jobo

Well that stinks. Has happened in two 8x10s now both with blue skies. Maybe I'll just start developing color myself.

A good idea; my home processing is head and shoulders above every lab I've used in the last 6-8 years.
Better contrast, colours, and, dare I say, evenness.

May be a dumb question but can I make up a small working solution for only 1 or 2 8x10s. I see the pdfs don't give numbers for very small batches.

I don't see why not, if you're using a replenisher.

I forgot to ask, as per your original question, whether or not you are pre-soaking.
If so, are you doing a two-step pre-soak?
Two soaks for 30s each before developer.
