I have a lens here that has these inscriptions:

Hugo Meyer & Co - Goerlitz N° 298358
Atelier-Schnellarbeiter 1:3 F=270mm

Aperture is working smoothly. This lens has about 21 aperture blades (it's not easy to not loose count, so I'm not 100% sure; it might be 20, it might be 22), forming a near perfect circle.
The glass looks quite good; it's not perfect: there are some specs of dust, etc .. but nothing dramatic.
I never used the lens myself: it's too big for my cameras: it's 1777 grams (about 3lb 14oz), 19.1cm heigh and has a diameter of about 11cm.
I've read it to be a nice and rare Petzval-type, but I know nothing more about it.

I want to sell it, as I will not be using it myself. Any idea what a reasonable price would be ? I don't want the most out of it, but I don't want to feel stupid afterwards either

Here are some pictures:

Ok, I finally found some info on it. I'll put it in the classifieds.

It's US branded Carl Meyer that you need to beware of :D

Hugo Meyer made some superb lenses before WWII, always over-shadowed by the much larger CZJ. Their range for Prakticas and Eaxctas were optically good as well except the Domoplan.

Meyer's fast Petzvals have a very very good reputation.

Steven, do you have any link about pics taken with the Meyer petzval lens? I'm curious.

Hi. Stefan (huge thanks :)) sold it to me and it is in my possession . Len is in great condition, as big as Wollensak 8x10 Portrait Series A although lighter. I checked on ground glass 8x10 and it covers wide open. Will use it for Wet plate. I'll post some pictures make with this len in the future.

A quick search showed there's a link by this guy made with 135mm f/3 Hugo Meyer wide open http://www.pbase.com/kds315/image/128145984 , http://www.pbase.com/kds315/image/128145983, http://www.pbase.com/kds315/image/128145986, http://www.pbase.com/kds315/image/128145987

Also check out here for wide open shots of 270mm f/3 on 13x18 Sinar http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/ex8x-3f-da4f.jpg, http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/big/ex8x-3e-07e1.jpg (forum:http://www.aphog.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3999&start=2595)

Oops, sorry about not answering; I didn't see the question of Robb (and following answers) until now .. @John: glad you like it. Don't show too many (a few is ok :)) pictures made with this lens: I might regret having sold it ..

I have the 50mm Hugo Meyer on my Exacta. It is every bit as good as my Nikkor or Zuiko counterparts. It is, however, significantly clunkier. I don't know if that quality carries into their large format lenses or not.

I tell this story every 2 years or so. My old friend, George Drucker, owner/president of B&J was looking for a "Germanic" name for re-branding or private labeling of lenses from other sources (post war surplus) or lenses that B&J were making themselves. In the course of searching for such a name he noticed that his wife's gynecologist was named "Carl Meyer". George simply used her doctor's name as his Gemanic lens name!
