The straight barreled version was made later than the one with the rack and pinion focusing. Same lens, otherwise. Great lens and it as produced from 1866 (IIRC) until maybe 1930 or so.

Does it cover 8X10 when shooting portrait (several meters to 10 meters)? what is the weight of this lens?

thanks both. I need a more solid camera if I get this lens since my canham can not handle so heavy lens.

You may want to consider the Patent Portrait Series D as field Portrait lens.

I use the Dallmeyer Series A/B with my studio cameras. However, in the field I use Dallmeyer series D #3 12 3/4" f6 /#4 17" f6 with my Canham Wood Standard 8x10.
They fit Sinar boards with room to spare.

The other thing is I find trying to shoot any Fast lens( f2-3-4) wide open in the out of doors can be challenging at best. usually need ISO 25 then ND filters to shoot at f3/f4 and not to mention that the depth of field at f3/f4 can be to small to get both eyes or similar.

With the Series D (Group lens) the depth of field is a bit deeper and if you pick your background properly the series D will prove as effective as Series A/B.

That's my 2 cents.
