Newbie question, I recently bought a Technika III, with it came a lens board that has a hole 32mm, will a 90mm f5.6 or f8 super angulon fit? On the back it has a groove around the hole that is about 80mm diameter. The groove is about 3mm wide.

My Linhof Kardan 4x5 lens board had a 32mm hole in it and I have successfully fitted a 90 F/8 Super Angulon.. From what I understand anything with a Copal 0 shutter will fit it... That would include the 90 F/5.6, 75, 72, 53, 47mm lenses..

Thanks for that, it looks like I can start lurking around e-bay. :)

Do you have any preference for newer or older models of the super angulon? The older models seem much cheaper, is there a reason for this?

Coverage is essentially the big difference between the older and newwer ones...

The XL branded Super-Angulons have massive image circles. They all cover 4x5 easily and allow movements... Even the super super wide 47mm F/5.6 XL. The 90 F/5.6, F/5.6XL and F/8 all easily cover 4x5, allow a massive amount of movements. The F/5.6 will be far easier to focus in lower light situations, If you shoot landscapes at dawn or dusk, the F/5.6 is worth the extra money over the F/8. I have the F/8 and it is great. I am buying a 75 F/4.5 next month as I like to shoot Very wide and early morning... I really need the faster lens for focusing and composing the shot early morning..

The earlier Angulons (not Super-Angulons) can be a good deal too.. The 90mm F/6.8 will cover 4x5, It won't give much in the way of movements untill stopped down to F/22 or 32, but you can pick those up for $150~180.. A 90mm F/8 super angulon might cost $230~280 depending on condition. It allows more movements and has better coatings, but its heavier, slower and much larger.

Everything is a tradeoff... What you need to do is decide what is important to you. To me, I need to compose and focus in the dark, so the extra light of an F/5.6 or F/4.5, F/4 is more important than the fact that they are huge, heavy and fairly expensive..
