I finally started on my new film holders for a 5x12 camera I will be building around them. As most of my lenses only cover 5x7 with slight movements and 1 that covers 8x10 with good movements (12") I starting to look around for a semi-wide lense that will cover. I have alittle while till I will need it but looking for suggestions. Price will be an issue as my wife all ready thinks I spend too much on my hobbies as it is. Thanks for all replies

Fujinon 250mm f/6.7 with 398mm image circle. I bought mine off ebay for less than $300.00 and that included shipping.

210mm Angulon. Not the Super, the ole "plain Angulon".

Older, single coated Fuji 210 f/5.6 (lettering around the lens, not on the lens barrel.) Should be able to find one for $300 or less. Superb lens! For even less, the more modern Fuji 210mm f/5.6 (lettering around the outside of the lens barrel,) *just* covers 8x10 straight-on and I've seen them go for $200 on Ebay.

That's what I use, it's pretty sharp and it took me forever to find one.

I echo the Fujinon lenses mentioned above, the 250mm f/6.7 and the 210mm f/5.6, both with the inside barrel lettering. I have both, and they are spectacular lenses. I simply do not understand why they continue to go for such relatively low prices after all the praise they get.

Look around for a Ilex-Caltar 215mm f4.8, covers 8x10 straight on. Should satisfy your wife.

Thanks for the responses. I have a few to start looking for while I'm working on the camera. Wife will be gone next week visiting family so should have 1 holder done working on the back right after. Thanks everyone.

Tim has one of the 250mm for sale right now. These only pop up randomly. I had to look for three months for my 210mm.

I have a Scientific Lens Co. 8x10 W.A. symmetrical coming this week, that I just bought for $45. Don't know if that's as cheap as you can find. I just found a Luc shutter to put on the front of it, that I found for $10 in a grab bag of stuff I happened to get yesterday at a local flea market. It looks rather similar to the Luxor 'improved WA' (5x7) that I picked up just before Christmas, for about the same price, albeit with Waterhouse wheel stops instead of an iris in the Luxor. The Luxor is surprisingly good, from my tests this week, as is the only other Scientific Lens Co I have (8x10 RR in Unicum shutter).

How about one of the Wollie 159mm/f12.5 lenses -- might not stretch out to 12".

240mm Sironar. If you do portraits, in a Prontor shutter, otherwise Copal.
It's my everyday lens. Not too heavy. Warmer than Symmar. Just about as long as the long side of the film - which allows you to hint at a little perspective.

Try a 210 or 240 G-claron.

Try a 210 or 240 G-claron.

Caveat emptor... The 240 will allow generous movements. The 210, only wiggle room.

No mention of the 210mm Kowa Graphic yet? I love mine. Very small too.
