View Full Version : Master printer recommendation
Do you guys know of anyone still doing large (20x24 and up) prints in the darkroom from 8x10 negatives? All of the guys I know only print up to 4x5.
Thanks!

You might ask Bob Carnie, who's a regular here. He's a co-owner of Elevator Digital, and I think he continues to operate a full service darkroom.

Check with Bob Carnie at Elevator http://www.elevatordigital.ca/printing.html. I think they have an 11x14 enlarger.

I should also mention Jim at MVLabs http://www.mvlabs.com. I have seen his work and it's phenomenal.

Jim Margargee is very well known and excellent.
Bob Carnie in Toronto has a great rep and is a great guy.
My friend Edgar Praus in Rochester is a fine printer and has several 8x10 Dursts set for color and B&W as well.
Perhaps the best way to choose is to have a bake-off and see which one is the best for you?
I can make up to 50x60" silver prints from 8x10. PM me if you would like some more info. I work at:

We are located in MA. We've made prints for many of the greats.
