A while back I was at a LF gathering and one of the participants expressed surprise that I had such a small filter in front of my lens. The lens in question was a 14" Commercial Ektar and the filter and holder was the Cokin P series (3 1/4"). I didn't pursue the comment any further at the time but find myself wondering how the surface area of a filter could affect the quality of a negative. I understand the potential problem with vignetting but have not experienced it with the same filter system on any of my lenses from 240mm on up. Is there potential 'edge affect' where the proximity of the edge of the resin filter could cause flare? I don't notice any so I dunno. Any opinions, facts or rumors on the subject?
