400 USD for a Nikon Nikkor-T*ED 360mmf/8 Large Format Telephoto Lens in Copal 1 shutter; I'm interested in buying one, but the rarely are for sale (at least, I don't see them often). It has both the 360 and 500 element.

Thanks,
Stefan.

Yes absolutely!! Of course assuming it's in good condition.

That's probably 1/3 the going rate.

My mistake: it's only with the 360mm element. I didn't know it's the rear element that makes the difference between 360 and 500, and since I saw on two different pictures an inscription for 360 and on another for 500 ..

Still a good deal then, I suppose ?

Thanks,
Stefan

I'm no lens expert and have never used a convertible lens but don't you need both elements for the shortest focal length?

I would definitely wait for a quality answer on here before I bought. I hope this helps.

Maybe I misunderstood. You maybe have the front element and the 360mm rear element?

Alan,

the REAR lens elements are interchangeable, the front stays put, the rear gets swapped out to change to a new/different focal length. In this case 360mm or 500mm. Nikon(Nikkor) also made a 600/800/1200 T(telephoto design, so shorter bellows draw than the actual length of FL) that can be used on formats up to 8x10.

see here for some more info on the 360/500T lens:

It has both the 360 and 500 element.

Do you have 2 pieces? Then you have a 500mm lens. 3 pieces? Then you have both a 360 and 500 lens. Either way, a great price. :) Nikkor also makes a 720 rear piece.

Even if it's just the base 360mm lens it's a good deal. KEH has one for about $800 after shipping with only the 360mm rear element.

A good price indeed. I have seen the 360 version going for around $700 - $800 and once including also the 500 element for about $1300.
