Are Carl Zeiss Jena Apo Germinar and Docter the same lenses?. Are they comparably in quality with Apo Ronars?

Have a look at this entry in Wikipedia and see if it makes anything clearer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOCTER_(optics)

Looking at the current Docter website (http://www.docter-germany.com/index.php?itid=157&lang_short_set=en), it would appear that they no longer produce camera lenses.

And by running a quick Google search on Apo Germinar, I came across this link on this site:

Yes, optically they are. The Docter versions are the only ones you can get in a shutter though. Updated versions of my texts on them can be found on my web site:

These lenses are incredible. I have a 30" Doctor in shutter and it blows me away every time I use it.

Thanks Collas and Arne for the valuable info. I could not believe the Apo-Germinar 1000 is 4,5Kg weight!!. I can not imagine such a beast on my Sinar P2!.

Some years ago I saw several Velvia 50 8x10 taken with the 750 in copal shutter version and I was really impressed with the sharpness, contrast and color.

Of course 4.5kg is for the Docter barrel version, the shuttered one weighs less than half that. The Zeiss barrel version is listed as 3.8kg, although it is the same design as the Docter one; weight really depends a lot on the mount material used (brass vs. aluminum) and might change somewhat over production time.
