Hi all,

I'm planning an small excursion for this weekend and I've noticed on google maps there could be interesting locations for industrial landscapes both sides of the river at the east of London.

I've seen a refinery, piers, power stations, abandoned fortresses and old artillery bunkers.

Does anybody knows the area?. I'd appreciate any hint, specially about accesability on these areas, since I'm going to use public transport and walk. I'm afraid I'm going to find lots of fences and private properties there.

Thanks a lot,

D.

Hi
I don't know the area myself but an Ordenance Survey map would show you the public footpaths, so you could get around the fences and private properties and the (free) application The Photographers Ephemeris (http://photoephemeris.com/) would show you which direction and height the sun will be in at any given time so that you could plan your route to make the most efficient use of your time.

Thanks Jostie, much appreciated.

Also, I've found this:

GREATER LONDON INDUSTRIAL ARCHAEOLOGY SOCIETY
(http://www.glias.org.uk/)

They seem to have a nice database and links to interesting resources.

Cheers,
D.
