While I love contact printing my 8x10 work, I am itching to print large but I am unable to find an enlarger. If anyone has any leads or interested in getting rid/selling one, please contact me.

Cheers!

Don't forget about the lens also. Some work best with a 240mm lens which seem less common lately that the 300 mm lenses. Also make sure that you have enough room in your darkroom because some of the 8x10 enlargers are big boys.

I have a monster Durst in Chicago that needs to leave my house. Color & cold heads. No lenses, but many boards.

How about a long distance drive to the NW in a Uhaul truck this thanksgiving week?
Lot's of scenery on your way out here. :D

Hello !
In the early 1900's, photographers used the camera as the enlarger. The light source, then, was the major problem.
Now, with cold light and LED available, it may be the easiest part to make....
I am thinking about making a 5x7 enlarger using the Sinar camera as my very small darkroom can't stand the height for a Durst 138....

Thanks for the heads up, I have plenty of room and my ceiling height is about 9 feet.

I am not against doing something like this but I have no clue where to buy (or which type) of light source to get.

Where are you located? I heard about an 8x10 cold light conversion of a Durst 138 in the Cleveland, OH area. Mine is only 7'1" tall, but I gather this was converted with different cold light so it may be a different height. The Durst 138 can easily be disassembled and carried in a car. I carried one and a half from Detroit to Cleveland in a medium size SUV. A friend carried one in a sedan from NH to OH.

I am in Miami but I am willing to fly somewhere and drive down with an enlarger.

Thanks!

I've been wanting an 8x10 enlarger since about '05, but never wanted to invest in a "battleship". Then about two months ago I picked up a 5x7 camera to fill the gap between 8x10 and 4x5 formats. So, now I needed a 5x7 enlarger even more. I ran across a R.B. Enlarging Camera by Folmer & Schwing on ebay, which should arrive in a several days. It was designed as a day-light enlarging camera, but will accept an incandescent and other light sources. If this works out as hoped, I may want to start a thread to discuss enlarging cameras in general.

Cool, keep us posted!

Here is the link to the enlarger John has mentioned. (For sale by a different John). I have not seen it but I believe J. Powers is correct in calling it a 138 rather than a 184.

I have one available in Jersey City, NJ. Asking $2100 (firm) which is the price I paid to totally refurbish the Omega D color head. The frame is an older Devere. I never used it though I think I have all the parts and negative carrier, plus the lens, plus what may be an extra bellows. Im using a Durst 1840 instead

Yes, I was going to refer you to ic-racer. All I know about the enlarger came from his comments.

I looked for one for awhile then a Durst L184 practically fell into my lap this month. They are around, you just have to be a little patient.

I converted my 8 x 10 Kodak 2D camera into a horizontal enlarger. I found a used 10 x 10 cold light head that I just fit at the back of the ground glass. Made a negative holder by cutting out the septum inside of an old wooden 8 x 10 film holder. The whole things works pretty well and my total outlay was about $200 (already had the camera and most of the cost was for the cold light head).

I have one I need to get rid of by the end of the month - its an old copy camera that was converted into a great enlarger so it is horizontal rather than vertical - good for lower ceilings. Located in Chicago. It's yours if you can take it away - I moved it to my basement in a pick up truck. Let me know! I just joined the forum.
