I am the very model of a digital photographer,
I take so many pictures I don't care how good or bad they are,
I chimp and shoot without a thought of composition near and far,
I am the very model of a digital photographer.

Bill,
Your "pome" might be more entertaining if there was at least a grain of truth to it.

Bill, you gave me a smile this morning :) It is so true of so many people who own such cameras (I won't refer to them as photographers)
So, film is better than digital, isn't it?

The anti digital crowd always give me a smile too. Their snobbery and distorted sense of superiority are their most amusing traits. Ironically they're generally the one's producing the same old stale uninspiring work... exactly the type of stuff your mother in law photographs from the tourist view points with her supermarket digital but of course without the pretensions to being anything other than a happy snapper. Just look at their web sites for evidence. They hardly share an artistic bone among them. Just stuffy old middle age men and women much more concerned with their toys and equipment over anything else.

Kev,
I don't need a website to be stuffy, old and middle age. :)

Actually, this is autobiographical, written for the benefit of a good friend who shoots superb 8x10 and is amused because she implies that I "talk LF a lot but mostly shoot digital."

...snobbery and distorted sense of superiority...they're generally the one's producing the same old stale uninspiring work...Who's a snob? Pot-kettle-black?
It's best to say nothing when one has nothing nice to say. I usually follow that advice, but, occasionally, recurring annoyances move me to ignore it. :)

Who's a snob? Is it you? Do you too look down your nose at the mass digital crowd and have an inflated opinion of yourself because you carry a view camera?

...the one's producing the same old stale uninspiring work... ...Just look at their web sites for evidence. They hardly share an artistic bone among them...People vary with respect to what inspires them and what they consider artistic. Not recognizing others' viewpoints as equally valid seems a very good illustration of snobbery.

I don't disagree about the staleness of a lot of LF images but i disagree about who it is that is the snobs.
I often get this "ohh you still shot film jees" whether i carry my Hassy or a larger camera but obviously a film camera.
I never disrespect a digital shooter and never make comments to anyone about camera choice but it is often coming from "Those who have seen the light"!

...Well that depends on their view point. No, their specific viewpoints don't matter. Failure to grasp this point confirms the snobbery.

View points that are patently absurd have no validity and therefore don't merit recognition, only opposition.

View points that are patently absurd have no validity and therefore don't merit recognition, only opposition. One person's "patently absurd" is another's "perfectly reasonable" viewpoint. Yet one more variation on how you've missed -- or deliberately refused to accept -- the point.
There are very few perspectives which qualify as patently absurd. Prohibitions against holding (or, more often, acting upon) those are usually codified in law. Otherwise, every outlook is equally valid. It is snobbish to believe one's own outlook superior to any other.
Something worth pondering is why someone who finds this forum so populated by "...stuffy old middle age men and women much more concerned with their toys and equipment over anything else..." bothers visiting here at all. To change the participants' outlooks? To disturb threads and the enjoyment of our host's generosity? Or simply as a run-of-the-mill troll?

Using your spurious logic the flat earth view of the earth is as valid as any other view. Each to their own I suppose.

To further promote the snobbery of analog photography I must inform you that to see an analog print you must be with it in person. Anything you see on a website is digital.:D

Agreed, but do you belong to the school of; flabby old gits producing tired old photographs with old wooden cameras while slighting the masses with their point and shoots?-) And further to that, have you ever been or even seen a ''Pome''? And even further to that, are you or do you intend to become a card carrying member of the flat earth society? That is the question.

Using your spurious logic the flat earth view of the earth is as valid as any other view...Those who believe the earth is flat ought be able to have a forum where they can freely discuss that without being bothered by trolls. Certainly their perspective is just as valid as are the beliefs of those who subscribe to religions, mainstream or otherwise. No scientific evidence exists for either worldview. Nonetheless, the Internet provides a venue where such like-minded people can gather in a community. Why is allowing purely opinion-based topics to be discussed unmolested so difficult? Hurling negative generalizations adds nothing to the conversation. Classic troll behavior.
And yet another pissing match erupts...Please note how long I've been a member here. Look, if you care to, at my posts over those years. You'll find I don't typically engage in what you describe as "pissing contests." My participation in this thread stems from a protective feeling toward the community.
Since joining, I've only put two members on my Ignore list. Both of those appear to also have been recognized by many other members as deserving that status. In this case, merely classifying Kev as an "Ignore" would be easier than making clear his somewhat subtle trolling nature. Suffering from a bit of windmill tilting, I hoped to help him understand that denigrating those who use LF cameras on a LF forum might not be productive behavior. I failed. It's time to seriously consider adding him to the list.

When I was young I worked in the Camera/Sporting Goods department of a Venture store. Venture was similar to a Target store.
We sold thousands of Canon Sureshot 35mm cameras. People shot roll after roll after roll of film with these camera's. I often saw the results since they had their film developed and printed by Fox Photo through us. We even "bought back" any photos that they didn't like. The funny thing about it was that most were very happy with their "bad" photos.
You are always going to have the snap shooter crowd. I don't see it as a film versus digital thing.

My my Sal, you are getting into a tizzy today. For the record I'm not ''denigrating'' the LF crowd, I'm one of them after all. I'm denigrating the ones who look down their noses at the digi wielding masses and who can't resist throwing a disparaging remark at every opportunity.
Every area of life has its elitist milieu, LF is no different.
Seriously though, if putting me on ignore improved your viewing pleasure of the forum I would definitely recommend it.
