While I know that this lens will cover 8x10 at f22 , I have been unable to determine the widest aperture at which it will cover 8x10 without movements or darkening in the corners. f4.5? Smaller?

A lens list on this site says that the lens circle at f/22 is 347mm: http://www.largeformatphotography.info/lenseslist.html

Thanks.

What will u be shooting? Portraits? Landscape?

I bet it will light the corners no problem. I am sure the corners will be soft shooting at infinity. Enjoy it. Be sure to post some images.

Should be a nice lens. I shot 8x10 with the 300/5.6 Xenar and would choose it again.

The 300mm f/5.6 Xenar is my primary lens for 8x10. It does not afford big movements but it is fine for most subjects - even wide open.

I have a barrel-mounted 300mm F4.5 Schneider Xenar. I had it forward-mounted, on a Sinar Norma lensboard, (using an Omega Enlarging Cone), so it would work with my Sinar Norma Shutter.

I've used it for 8x10 landscapes, and it works well, although I was not using it wide-open. Actually, I bought it because I wanted to use it for large format portraiture.

Here is the data on the lens, from the Schneider website:

I suspect it will shoot full body portraits at F4.5 with no problem. Since you are closer-focusing, the image circle will have increased.

My 480mm Xenar was in the past promoted as 11X14 lens on the german Schneider site!
But not on this english side, why?

Could they not read german;--))))

Cheers Armin

I own the Aero-Xenar, which is a Helinar (sp?) version of this lens. These are the 4-element lenses correct? Mine has five from optical inspection test.

The Xenar is a Tessar type, I used one and it covers wide open. The corners at f4.5 may or may not be sharp enough for your purposes.
