Hi All,
Just got my second modified Kelty (this on is the smaller 44 liter size) and had Bruce do the full length zipper modification.
On this one I opted for the standard, rather than the waterproof, zipper. As always Bruce's team did a perfect job of removing/replacing the zipper.
For those not sure which shutter is best, I find the standard zipper to be easier to open and close than the waterproof version. Obviously, it's not waterproof, but I have a rain cover for the pack anyway. If I live in Seattle I'd go for the waterproof though.
Bruce did advise me that the waterproof zipper gets harder to open in cold weather, but even in California I found the standard version more convenient. Can't comment on longevity as yet, but my old modified Kelty is at least 4-5 years old and shows no sign of wear.
Thanks again to Bruce and crew! Great product(s) and even better service. What a concept for a business model...who knew?
